About Readerly

* Readerly is currently invite-only, but we’re excited to bring more readers into the platform in the near future. If you don’t have a code, we encourage you to download the app and join our waiting list!

Readerly is an ethical, independent book discovery platform. We’re not simply redesigning what’s already out there, we’re reimagining the way readers hear about books, dampening the dominating effect bestsellers have on our social media feeds and exposing readers to the wide range of books being published.

Here are a few things that make us different:

POPULAR BOOKS WON’T DOMINATE
Whenever you take an action on a book—Save, Hide, or mark Done—you’ll never see that book in your feed again. You can always find it in the corresponding tabs, but removing it allows us to make room for titles you may never have heard of or missed reading the first time around.

READERS LEAVE GISTS, NOT REVIEWS
We’re replacing the traditional reader review with Gists. Gists are essentially reviews broken up into fun, easy-to-create slides beginning with a quick shoutline for your favorite books (just a sentence or two). You can add tags, character bios, favorite quotes, and similar books. You can also get creative with the “Read This…” slide, finishing the sentence however you like: “...if you’re in the mood for something light...on your commute...with a glass of pinot noir…” You get the idea. We’ll only fill your feed with Gists from like-minded readers and people you follow so you can discover more books you’ll enjoy.

NO GENERIC 5-STAR RATING AVERAGES
It’s 2021, and the world is still using a 5-star rating average to grade highly subjective work. Too many excellent books go undiscovered because they weren’t written for the majority and received below the dreaded 3.5 star average. Rather than give a book the same rating for everyone, we show you the percentage of readers similar to you who recommended the book.

WE TAILOR THE ENTIRE SITE TO YOU
No two readers are alike, and we tailor the entire site to your unique tastes. In addition to showing you personalized ratings and Gists, we tailor every feed, including Top, New, and For You. Behind the scenes, we match you with like-minded readers to ensure you get the most relevant recommendations.

WE’RE INDEPENDENT, ACCOUNTABLE ONLY TO OUR READERS
Readerly is privately funded, completely ad-free, and we never take money from retailers or publishers to promote certain titles. We are free to use, but offer a subscription to readers who want to support our mission so we can keep their interests at the heart of the platform.

SUBSCRIPTION BENEFITS:
- Get highly tailored recommendations from like-minded readers
- Discover books from the past month, year, and decade in a Top tab created just for you
- Save an unlimited number of books (our free plan is limited to 90)

What’s new

Version 1.0.15 · Updated April 11, 2021

Thanks to our early adopters brilliant feedback, we've fixed a number of bugs, including: - Feedback form would crash app for some users - Rating a book and Gist creation flow implied you had to create a Gist, when it's actually optional. Added more prominent close button. - Duplicate Gists caused by pressing the "Post" button twice. It now hides and shows a loading indicator while the Gist is posted, and prevents the same Gist posting twice.
