Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using AlterBase ("the Service"), operated by Adeptus Innovatio SL ("we," "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the Service.

2. Description of Service

AlterBase is a platform that allows users to discover, submit, and compare software alternatives. We provide:

  • A directory of software tools and alternatives
  • User accounts for submitting and managing products
  • Comparison and discovery features
  • Free and paid listings (see section 5)
  • Paid ads and sponsored reviews (see section 6)

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

To use certain features, you must register for an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
  • Be responsible for all activities under your account

3.2 Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activities.

4. User Content

4.1 Content Submission

When you submit products, reviews, or other content to AlterBase, you:

  • Retain ownership of your content
  • Grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to use, display, and distribute your content
  • Represent that you have the right to submit the content
  • Agree that your content does not violate any laws or third-party rights

4.2 Content Standards

You agree not to submit content that:

  • Is false, misleading, or fraudulent
  • Infringes on intellectual property rights
  • Contains malware or harmful code
  • Is spam, promotional, or off-topic
  • Contains offensive, abusive, or discriminatory material

5. Listings & link attributes

Every tool on AlterBase has a listing: a page about it that links to its site. You can list a tool for free with our badge on your site, or make it Featured.

5.1 Free Listings with Our Badge

  • Listing a tool is free when your site shows the AlterBase badge, with a followed link to alterbase.co, on the page you list or on your homepage.
  • When you submit a tool, we save it as a draft. We don't review or publish a draft. It joins our review queue when our check finds the badge on your site, or when you ask us to look for the badge by hand because our check could not read your site. A Featured listing is published without the badge (section 5.3).
  • We email you at most one reminder about a draft. We keep a draft for 30 days from the day you submit it, or from the day our review sets it back to a draft, then delete it; you can delete it yourself before that.
  • A person reviews your listing within 7 days of it joining the queue. If we cannot find the badge on your site when we review it, we don't publish the listing: it goes back to being a draft.
  • Tools submitted before October 14, 2026 without the badge are reviewed as we told their makers by email, and their listings link to their sites with rel="nofollow".

5.2 The AlterBase Badge

  • While our crawler finds the badge on your site, your listing's link to your site is followed. We check it every week: after two weekly checks in a row that do not find it, or a check by hand that does not, the link goes back to rel="nofollow". The listing stays published.

5.3 Featured Listings

  • Featured costs $5 for one listing: a one-time payment in US dollars, VAT not included, made on that listing's upgrade page.
  • A Featured listing is published at once, without waiting for the review queue, and stays Featured permanently: there is nothing to renew.
  • It carries a "Featured" label and is shown first on its "Best Alternatives to …" page, before the listings that are not Featured (the most recently Featured first). It also appears in the Featured rows of the home page and Browse while it is among the latest Featured listings.
  • Its link to your site is followed, with or without the badge.
  • Listings submitted through our partner Submitator are Featured as part of the Submitator order their makers paid for.
  • A Featured listing must meet these Terms like any other, including the content standards in section 4.2. If we take down a Featured listing, for whatever reason, we refund its Featured payment in full. Otherwise Featured payments are not refunded.
  • If we cannot apply a payment, for example because the listing was rejected or already Featured when you paid, we refund it in full.

5.4 Paid Ranking

Featured listings are paid placements: they are labelled "Featured" and shown first on their alternatives page, and in the Featured rows, because their makers paid for it, directly or through Submitator. No other payment changes whether or where a listing appears.

5.5 Link Attributes

Our links to your site carry:

  • rel="nofollow" on listings without a verified badge that are not Featured;
  • a followed link (no nofollow) on listings with a verified badge, for as long as the badge stays up, and on Featured listings;
  • rel="sponsored" on ads, and on the links to the advertiser in a sponsored review.

Only a listing's link to its own site can be followed: any other link on a listing's page, such as one in its description or to a social profile, is nofollow. We may change the attributes of our links when search engines' guidelines or the law require it.

6. Advertising, sponsored reviews & refunds

Ads and sponsored reviews are sold to businesses to promote their products. You can pay us for an ad or a sponsored review through Stripe. Prices are in US dollars and do not include VAT. Ads and sponsored reviews never change our editorial listings: paying for one does not affect whether a tool is listed, or where it appears in the directory. Only Featured does (section 5.4).

6.1 Ads

  • An ad is a one-time payment in US dollars for one month. There is no subscription: nothing renews.
  • We activate each ad by hand within 1 business day of your payment. It runs for 30 days from the day it goes live.
  • If the placement is fully booked when you pay, we email you the next free date. Your ad runs from that date, or we refund you in full if you'd rather not wait.
  • Ads are labelled "Ad", and their links carry rel="sponsored".
  • You can get a full refund any time before your ad goes live. Once it is running, there is no refund.

6.2 Sponsored Reviews

  • Sponsored reviews are labelled "Sponsored", and their links to you carry rel="sponsored".
  • We deliver each review within 10 business days of your payment. If we don't, we refund it in full.
  • We take at most 4 sponsored reviews a month. If the month is full, we offer you a date next month or a full refund.

6.3 What We May Decline

We may decline an ad or a listing that breaks these Terms, including the content standards in section 4.2. If we decline an ad you have paid for, we refund it in full. If we take down a listing you paid to make Featured, we refund that payment in full (section 5.3).

7. Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Adeptus Innovatio SL and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

8. Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Service to:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation
  • Scrape or harvest data without permission
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to systems
  • Submit false or misleading information

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Adeptus Innovatio SL shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the Service.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Adeptus Innovatio SL and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of any material changes by posting the new Terms on this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. This does not limit any mandatory consumer protection you have under the law of your country of residence.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
