First run / Verify your download

Extract the whole ZIP into a folder and run SubtitleDoctor.exe. Keep adjacent packaged files and folders together.

Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is required separately. Install it from Microsoft if missing; it is not bundled or installed automatically by the app.

Windows binaries are not Authenticode signed, so Windows may show a reputation or security warning. Download only through official ALMARFELD or GitHub release links. Do not disable Windows security.

For an optional SHA-256 check, open PowerShell in the folder containing your downloaded ZIP and run:

Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 .\SubtitleDoctor-v1.0.1-win-x64.zipExpected SHA-256:66a35481de76bfe9ba6ae4fc959c0302a4fea2d5f88144005db1a4062bfb300c

Compare the Hash value; letter case does not matter. A matching hash confirms the downloaded bytes match the published artifact; it is not a malware scan or an Authenticode signature. Do not run a file with a different hash.

Features

Inspect, repair, edit and synchronize SRT, ASS, SSA and WebVTT subtitles in one local workspace. Scan for timing and text issues, preview selected repairs, or apply offsets and two-point timing correction. Batch operations and CSV or JSON reports help with larger collections.

Subtitle diagnostics

Find overlaps, duplicates, invalid timing, empty entries, long lines and encoding issues with read-only scans.

Editing and repairs

Split and wrap supported formatting without cutting through tags. Edit cues, preview repairs, find and replace text, and undo session operations.

Conservative cue merging

Merge compatible adjacent cues. Unsafe timing, positioning, identifiers or formatting cause a clear refusal instead of silently losing subtitle data.

Timing and conversion

Apply offsets, two-point correction or FPS changes. Convert formats and process batches with per-file results.

How to use it

  1. Import subtitle files
  2. Inspect the diagnostics
  3. Preview edits or repairs
  4. Save a separate output

Privacy and limitations

Subtitle files are processed locally, with no accounts, uploads or telemetry. Exports keep originals by default. Replacing a source requires confirmation and a backup; editing history is limited to the current session.

Requires the separate Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime; it is not bundled or installed automatically. Advanced styling can be lost during format conversion; review the warnings. No translation, video playback or waveform generation is included.
