Verwarrende uitdrukking

[wysig bron]

'n Interessante taalverskynsel om te praat van "... relatief groot ... minderheid". So 'n uitdrukking verwar die gewone leser en moet dalk herskryf word. [GerharBe|GerharBe], 13:05, 28 06 2004

is the name Israël or Israel?? is die naam Israël or Israel??

Dutch has in fact "Israël", and one might wonder if this rule should be followed in Afrikaans as well. There are a number of Dutch place or proper names with historic spellings where "ae" is a long vowel ("aa") rather than a diphthong ("a+e") - for example, former Dutch-Flemish spellings like Schaerbeek en Laeken are used in French, while Flemish and Dutch have a reformed spelling (Schaarbeek etc.). It is quite handy for speakers of Dutch and (Belgian) French to indicate the pronunciation with the appropriate spelling.
There are, however, very few propernames, if any, with historic spelling in Afrikaans, so the "aë" is not required. I strongly suggest "Israel". --Voyageur (kontak) 11:03, 2 Julie 2008 (UTC)[antwoord]

Demoniem

[wysig bron]

Wat is die korrekte demoniem? Die artikel gebruik Israeli, maar Naspers verkies blykbaar Israeliese: Nadat lede van die binnekring van die Israeliese premier, Benjamin Netanyahu, in hegtenis geneem is, het sy probleme verdiep. [1] Is Netanyahu dus 'n Israeliese of 'n Israeli? Of is hy 'n Israeli en die Israeliese premier? Kan iemand verduidelik? @Gebruiker:Suidpunt K175 (bespreking | bydraes) 21:24, 22 Februarie 2018 (UTC)[antwoord]

In Afrikaans is Israelse of Israeliese aanvaarbaar, aldus die HAT. Israeli is klaarblyklik 'n anglisisme. Voyageur (kontak) 21:50, 22 Februarie 2018 (UTC)[antwoord]
