Roadtrip to…
Snowy
Flagstaff
Yes… it was time once again to visit the very missed snow. Except this time, coming back to warmish weather afterwards, felt VERY GOOD. And I was thankful to live in Arizona. THANKFUL.
To be conveniently located 2 hours away from freezing, beautiful snowy weather and then to come back to comfortable enough weather to have the kids play at the park down the street, with jackets, was just WONDERFUL. No other word could describe the feeling I had better than WONDERFUL.
Our trip started out with the movie Miracle on 34th Street playing loudly in the car on our way up, followed by extreme excitement at seeing the first bit of snow on the side of the road, and then the rush of arriving to piles of snow so high, you’d get buried alive… well, probably deep enough to bury Kallie. Still… that’s deep. It had snowed 14” the night before we got there, and the freshly fallen glittery snow was BREATHTAKING. Jaidyn called it MAGICAL. I totally agreed with my lil’ Jaidy.
We passed by a store called Jadyn’s Boutique, and still, Jaidyn is talking about how neat it was to see a store with her name and spelled so close the same.
We tried out a new place this time. One, many people have told us about. It was $10 a car to go in. And we were sad to find that after arriving at 2:45 and going down the hill, oh… about 3 times, the lady on the loud intercom announced the place was closing and clearing out at 4pm. WHAT??? It was ok though, to leave and get to eating dinner at Garcias and then to get checked into our hotel early. We swam, relaxed, and then relaxed some more. The lobby had a great cozy fireplace with Man vs. Wild playing on tv, which my kids thoroughly enjoyed. We mingled there awhile, actually, and played on the computers, and cut out paper snowflakes, and had hot chocolate with scoops of ice cream inside. Very fun.
That’s Mike in that big powder puff.
Falling (I mean sledding) down the hill, “Melody style.” I don’t enjoy sledding whatsoever. It was Mike and the kids that begged me to go down once, “JUST ONCE, MOMMY!”
So I gave in, but Mommy isn’t so coordinated with the sledding part, and it wasn’t until I downloaded this picture that I realized why so much snow was caked inside my ear and on my sunglasses and my hair and face. I felt like Frosty the Snowman when I got to the bottom. What was I doing not holding onto the sled? I think I was riding a horse.
Mike: “Honey, you can’t go down that way. You have to go on your belly down so that you don’t end up kicking all the snow up in your face.”
(Would have been helpful information before going down THAT ONE TIME!)
This was Dagen most of the time. Until Daddy took her for a ride down. I was shocked she loved it so much.
Daddy pulling Dagen up the huge hill and then Daddy having to carry her football style up the rest of the way.
THE END.
