Unlocking Leadership Potential: My Journey to Coaching CEOs As I reflect on my career path, I’m reminded of the various stages that have shaped me into the leader I am today. My journey began with a strong enthusiasm for learning, driven by a desire to understand the world of business. University provided a solid foundation, where the theories were engaging, and collaborative projects ignited my passion for teamwork. However, the true lessons came from the challenges I encountered in the business landscape—navigating the complexities of clients, team dynamics, and organizational hurdles. Each mistake, whether large or small, offered valuable learning opportunities and helped build my resilience and adaptability. These experiences propelled me forward, leading to promotions and ultimately overseeing a large organization with over 10,000 employees and more than $1.2 billion in revenue. Transitioning to a board role marked a pivotal shift in my perspective. I quickly realised that as a board member, my role was not to act as the CEO but to engage in deeper inquiry. The questions we ask are far more critical than the answers we provide. By collaborating with the leadership team, my focus became helping to plot a strategic course that creates authentic value for all stakeholders—employees, shareholders, and the community—anchored in ethical responsibility. Today, I’m passionate about coaching CEOs in navigating their own leadership journeys. I’ve learned that the most effective coaching stems from asking the right questions—challenging assumptions and illuminating perspectives that may often go unnoticed. It may seem simple, but it is through the mistakes I’ve made over the past 30 years that I've gained the insights needed to guide others in creating real, sustainable value. How to Stay Resilient During Challenging Times Resilience isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about finding strength in the journey. For women in leadership, challenges are inevitable, but with resilience and the right support, we can navigate these moments with grace. 🌿 Research tells us there are two key protective factors when it comes to resilience: Purpose: A clear sense of purpose can keep us going when times are tough. Writing down your purpose, reading it out loud, and displaying it where you can see it daily can serve as a powerful reminder of why you do what you do. Community: Surround yourself with people you can lean on, from friends and family to mentors, colleagues, and networks.
