This one bugs me as I’m passionate about building great UX design into everything. But I fail to see any UX benefits in varying the positioning of the ad units on the search results page. The only objective can surely be to disorientat the user and try to increase click through rates on ads, this is the latest change to the Google experience that’s primary objective appears to be to boost Google revenues, rather than help end users manage the worlds information. I believe Google is slowly opening the door to disruption, as their focus shifts from the user to the shareholders, businesses often lose site of what’s really important to users, let’s see if the wave of AI tools can bring any contenders the fore. https://lnkd.in/eA3YKNe4

Good article on the Google anti-trust case form the Guardian, my favorite quote and something I’ve been echoing for a long time now: - “Why, given that Google has such a virtuous circle for improving its search engine, does its quality seem to be deteriorating?” The search experience is getting worse, as focus has moved from the experience, to monetisation of the end user, which is exactly what happens in a monopoly when no serious competition is able to compete. I hope this ruling and the rise of AI search tools, helps to increase competition and we once again start to focus on delivering better search experiences 😀
