Finnish President Alexander Stubb has joined world leaders paying tribute to Pope Francis, who died on Easter Monday aged 88.

Stubb expressed his condolences on the social media platform X.

"Today, the world mourns the death of Pope Francis. He will be remembered for his work among the poor and as a defender of the socially disadvantaged," President Stubb wrote, concluding his message by saying that the Pope's legacy brings comfort to those grieving.

Also on X, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) extended his condolences to Catholics around the world.

The Archbishop of Finland's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tapio Luoma, commemorated the late Pope Francis on Instagram.

"May eternal light shine upon him!" Luoma wrote in his post.
