Finnish ministers are joining their EU foreign affairs and defence counterparts in Brussels for meetings on Monday and Tuesday.
Finnish Foreign Affairs Minister Elina Valtonen (NCP) is meeting with her EU colleagues to discuss a number of topics, including Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
Discussion on that topic will include issues such as security commitments, sanctions, and the Ukrainian Peace Formula proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the ministry said.
The ministers are also discussing long-term support for Ukraine and the country's prospects of becoming a member of the EU.
"We need strong measures to reinforce the capacity of European defence industries. We must make use of all possible EU common procurement and funding systems," Valtonen said in the release.
The Foreign Affairs Council will address the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
"It is of paramount importance that the EU act strongly so that humanitarian aid will reach Gaza. We must prevent the war from escalating into a wider regional conflict and start paving the way for a permanent, peaceful resolution," Valtonen said.
The foreign ministers will also discuss developments in Armenia and Azerbaijan and the foreign policy dimension of the EU’s economic security, among other topics.
On Tuesday, Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen (NCP) will represent Finland at a defence ministers' meeting in Brussels.
The ministers are expected to discuss, among other things, the protection of critical infrastructure as well as issues related to Ukraine.
