On this day in 2024, the York Press reported that York Racecourse had been transformed into a Lego wonderland.

The Yorkshire Brick Show, hosted by Brickshire, the Yorkshire Lego user group, took over the racecourse's entrance hall the previous weekend.

The hall was filled with enthusiasts showcasing their Lego creations, from cityscapes to beach scenes, complete with shark lookout posts.

There were numerous railway stations, including a model of Goathland station, and a giant Lego model of Hogwarts with its Quidditch field.

Other creations included a model of the London 2012 Olympic stadium, featuring swimming, equestrianism, and weightlifting events, with a recreation of Tower Bridge in the background.

Lego fan Lily Chen, who attended the event, said: "I was amazed by the imagination of people, and by the ideas they had and what they could do.

"It was just lovely to see."
