Motivation

[edit]

The TopKar (Q124296935) is a geoinformation resource on the toponymy of Karelia. It describes Karelian, Veps and Russian toponyms in the North West of Russia. The article about toponym in TopKar describes a name, synonyms, incorrect synonyms (wrong names), geo type, geographical administrative division (region, district, settlement), etymology, location on the map (OpenStreetMap), main description of toponym (in Russian), date and place of recording of information about toponym, list of toponyms in this settlement. Each TopKar entry has own unique ID.

This would be a useful source of additional information about the writing, pronunciation and history of, for example, the villages, lakes and rivers of Karelia presented in Wikidata and Wikipedia.

A link to a TopKar entry can serve as an authoritative source for confirming information for Wikidata values. -- Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 11:23, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
