Motivation
[edit]As projects like Welfare State Analytics https://www.westac.se/en/ are Text Mining and Modeling Swedish Politics and doing ML and NER those text strings are important for identify the people in the Swedish Parliament mentioned in the documents. In Sweden it looks like Wikidata is the best electronic source for who has been active in the Swedish parlament so its natural that Wikidata also support those text strings --> makes NER easier and we will get good feedback from the project working with the corpus of the Swedish PM see GITHUB welfare-state-analytics/riksdagen-corpus
The name form was used for nearly every person in the older days. Today we have just found it used 2 times for 2 persons with the same name Jonas Andersson
- Jonas Andersson (Q58837098) see video when he is called Jonas Andersson i Linghem
- "official page" using the name form "Jonas Andersson i Linghem "
- Jonas Andersson (Q59387749) see video when he is called Jonas Andersson i Skellefteå
- "official page" using the name form "Jonas Andersson i Skellefteå"
Another advantage to have a dedicated property for this is that people changed the name used eg. Karl Björkänge (Q5578035) was during one period called Andersson i Björkänge and then changed to Andersson i Lindesberg (source) --> having a dedicated property we could add dates when used...

Discussion
[edit]- Comment how about using an existing property with some qualifier? e.g. name (P2561) and "object has role". --- Jura 01:22, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- As is stated for name (P2561) in the usage notes: "If a more specific property is available, use that". But I too dislike the proliferation of very specialized properties that are only applicable to a tiny fraction of the items. Looking at the "see also" list we have things like noble title (P97), website username or ID (P554), second family name in Spanish name (P1950), Roman nomen gentilicium (P2359), name in hiero markup (P7383), you name it (pun intended)! Then we also have posthumous name (P1786), name in kana (P1814), author citation (zoology) (P835), botanist author abbreviation (P428), amateur radio callsign (P5143), regnal and papal names currently not available as Wikidata properties, plus (I think) hundreds of different database identifiers, many of which may apply also to people.
- I'm looking for a compromise. How about creating a new "limited context name" property with certain mandatory or recommended qualifiers (context/role, time period etc) that will technically comply with the usage note cited, but be useful in contexts beyond the Swedish parliament? I'm not suggesting that it should replace any existing properties (even if that may be a future option), but merely slow down the increase in number of properties. Besides resulting in less clutter, it may help developing software routines to deal with all these different kinds of names in a uniform fashion. -- SM5POR (talk) 18:50, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks feels like a way forward and we dont get property "overload (L332411)" for the ML people it feels like a good enough solution... how difficult is creating a template that using a field with a specific property object of statement has role (P3831)?
