Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Southern Plains; Fire Weather Threat in the Southwest U.S.

Thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy to excessive rainfall and isolated flooding over portions of the Southern Plains today and Saturday. Dry conditions, combined with gusty winds and low relative humidities will continue to support an elevated to critical fire weather threat in the Desert Southwest into to early next week. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are expected to enter a wet and unstable weather pattern through the weekend, though the exact onset timing remains uncertain. For today, showers and thunderstorms are forecast in the central interior and north-central Puerto Rico during the afternoon, shifting to the eastern part of Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands during the evening. Possible impacts include urban and small stream flooding, water over roadways, and isolated mudslides.

A long period northeasterly swell will start to spread across the local waters Saturday night into Sunday, resulting in a high risk of rip current on Sunday.
