Here's one for both airspotting and football fans: Malaysia Airlines has just unveiled its new livery featuring English Premier League club Manchester United, and of course, the Jalur Gemilang.

The design sees the Malaysian flag wrapping the rear of the airline's flagship A330-300, with the MU Manchester United name and logo on the front end.

According to Malaysia Airlines, the "design symbolises harmony, strength and unity between aviation and sports – two forces that inspire and connect people worldwide".

The bespoke livery was unveiled during a media event at Matta Fair 2025, with three Manchester United legends – Dimitar Berbatov, Nemanja Vidic and Luis Nani – in attendance. The trio are in Kuala Lumpur for special meet-and-greet sessions at the travel fair, happening from April 18 to 20 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec).

The meet-and-greet sessions are open to the public; just head to the MAG Arena to find out more. Malaysia Airlines has numerous booths at the fair, and its pavilion is one of the biggest this year.

The MAG Arena also has replicas of some of Malaysia Airlines' latest Business Class seat, like the ones on the A330neo.

During the media event, the airline also gave a preview of its Boeing 737-10 lie-flat Business Class seat, a first for its narrowbody fleet. The Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) plans to operate 55 Boeing 737-8 and 737-10 aircraft by 2030, with hopes of becoming a top 10 global airline.

Bringing Brissy back

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines announced that it is making a return to Brisbane in Queensland, Australia later this year. The direct flight will be reinstated from Nov 29, with 5x weekly flights. Promotional fares start from RM1,999 for Economy Class and RM8,999 for Business Class.

The airline is also increasing flight frequencies for two other Australian routes – Sydney (New South Wales) and Melbourne (Victoria) – proving its continued commitment to the growing Australian market.

Other destinations on the airline's Asia Pacific network that will have increased flight frequencies include Auckland (New Zealand), Surabaya (Indonesia), Phuket (Thailand) and Trivandrum (India).

Apart from that, Economy Class passengers on Malaysia Airlines will now receive enhanced attributes, giving them more choices tailored to their travel needs. All Economy Class fares including Economy Value (which replaces Economy Lite), will not only get the basic 7kg cabin baggage allowance, but also a 20kg checked baggage allowance, complimentary meals, a 10% child discount and booking flexibility (for a fee).

Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, MAG group managing director, said in a statement: “This marks a bold and exciting new chapter for Malaysia Airlines, as we unite the passion of sport, the spirit of innovation, and the pride of our nation.

"Our partnership with Manchester United embodies shared values of excellence and global ambition, while the resumption of Brisbane flights and expanded regional connectivity reinforce our strategic focus on growth.

"With the introduction of lie-flat Business Class seats on our new Boeing 737-10 aircraft, we are redefining the travel experience for our guests. As we continue to elevate our offerings, we remain steadfast in our commitment to reimagining travel through the lens of Malaysian Hospitality, guided by our vision to be among the world’s leading airlines.”
