Over the course of his decorated four-year career at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, former Northview standout Thomas Chapman has set numerous cross country and track and field school records, and over the weekend at the Rose Hulman Twilight Meet, the senior distance runner added two more to his ledger.
Chapman, who will wrap up his running career next weekend at the River States Conference Outdoor Championships, finished ninth overall in the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:04, which beat his own record, which was set in 2023, by nearly three seconds. He followed that up by setting the new 800-meter record by finishing 20th overall with a time of 2:04, besting the previous mark by 0.26 seconds.
Chapman was one of several former Clay City and Northview standouts to put together noteworthy performances over the last week. The others are below:
Gavin Morris (ISU baseball)
Gavin Morris and the Indiana State University baseball team visited Evansville over the weekend for a three-game series. Morris appeared in two of the three games, both out of the bullpen. The right-handed pitcher threw 2.1 scoreless innings while striking out six batters to pick up his third save of the year in the opener and then surrendered three runs over two innings of work while striking out five batters in the finale. Indiana State owns a 20-19 record and plays Illinois for a midweek standalone game before welcoming in Murray State for a three-game series beginning on Friday.
Lauren Sackett (ISU softball)
Lauren Sackett and the Indiana State University softball team visited Bradley for a three-game series over the weekend. Sackett appeared in two of the three games – one as a starter and one as a reliever. The junior right-handed pitcher did not allow an earned run over her nine innings of work that saw her strike out four batters. Indiana State owns a 15-29 record and visits Eastern Illinois for a midweek standalone game before hosting the University of Illinois-Chicago for a three-game series beginning on Friday.
Hailey Hofmann (Rose Hulman softball)
Hailey Hofmann and the Rose Hulman softball team recently visited Franklin for a doubleheader. Hofmann started both games in centerfield but did not record a plate appearance in the pair of losses. Rose Hulman owns a 10-10 record and visits Spalding for a two-game series beginning on Thursday.
Sophie Moshos (Appalachian State softball)
Sophie Moshos and the Appalachian State University softball team visited Georgia State over the weekend for a three-game series. Moshos appeared in two of the games, both of which came in starts. The junior left-handed pitcher surrendered a combined five runs in her 8.2 innings of work while striking out five batters. Appalachian State owns 20-23 record and hosts North Carolina Central for a midweek standalone game before visiting Southern Mississippi for a three-game series beginning on Friday.
Halle Miller (ISU women’s track and field)
Halle Miller and the Indiana State University women’s track and field team hosted the Gibson Invitational over the weekend. There, Miller competed in the 800-meter race where the sophomore distance runner finished second overall with a time of 2:12. Indiana State returns to the track this weekend at the Drake Relays.
Jcim Grant (ISU men’s track and field)
Jcim Grant and the Indiana State University men’s track and field team hosted the Gibson Invitational over the weekend. There, Grant competed in the 5000-meter race where the freshman distance runner finished 27th overall with a time of 15:46. Indiana State returns to the track this weekend at the Drake Relays.
Nolan White (Purdue men’s track and field)
Nolan White and the Purdue University men’s track and field team took part in the Bryan Clay Invitational over the weekend. There, White competed in the 10000-meter race, although the junior distance runner did not finish. Purdue returns to the track Saturday at the Fighting Illini Twilight Invitational.
Hank Slater (Rose Hulman men’s track and field)
Hank Slater and the Rose Hulman and the men’s track and field team hosted the Rose Hulman Twilight Invitational over the weekend. There, Slater competed in the 5000-meter race where the sophomore distance runner finished 19th overall with a time of 17:09. Rose Hulman returns to the track on Friday at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.
Brooklee Bussing (SMWC women’s golf)
Brooklee Bussing and the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods women’s golf team took part in the Forest Hills Women’s Collegiate Tournament over the weekend. There, Bussing fired respective rounds of 89 and 87 to finish with a cumulative score of 176 to help lead the Pomeroys to the team championship. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to the course on Sunday for the start of the River States Conference Championship held in Daniels, West Virginia.
Lane Notter (Wabash men’s golf)
Lane Notter and the Wabash College men’s golf team recently took part in the Cochran Collegiate Invitational. There, Notter fired respective rounds of +9, +12 and +12 to finish with a cumulative score of +33, putting the freshman in a tie for 84th place. Wabash returns to the course Friday at the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted by Millikin University.
Benjamin Goshen (SMWC men’s golf)
Benjamin Goshen and the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men’s golf team recently took part in the Sagamore Shootout. There, Goshen fired respective rounds of 82 and 83 to finish with a cumulative score of 165, putting the senior in a tie for 43rd place. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to the course on Friday at the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted by Millikin University.
Justin Hopkins (SMWC men’s golf)
Justin Hopkins and the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men’s golf team recently took part in the Sagamore Shootout. There, Hopkins fired respective rounds of 84 and 81 to finish with a cumulative score of 165, putting the senior in a tie for 43rd place. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to the course on Friday at the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted by Millikin University.
Brevin Cooper (SMWC men’s golf)
Brevin Cooper and the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men’s golf team recently took part in the Sagamore Shootout. There, Cooper fired respective rounds of 83 and 82 to finish with a cumulative score of 165, putting the senior in a tie for 43rd place. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to the course on Friday at the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted by Millikin University.
Chase Nuckols (SMWC men’s golf)
Chase Nuckols and the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men’s golf team recently took part in the Sagamore Shootout. There, Nuckols fired respective rounds of 89 and 81 to finish with a cumulative score of 170, putting the senior in a tie for 54th place. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to the course on Friday at the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted by Millikin University.
