For years, Snopes has fact-checked claims about ABC's show "The View."

The show is a frequent target of online rumors, in part, because several hosts have expressed left-leaning views and criticized U.S. President Donald Trump.

That political tension has led to websites that spread false claims under the label of "satire" to use the show in their fictional storytelling for online attention. Because the websites' disclaimers are sometimes difficult to find, their stories often go viral — generating outrage or enthusiasm — without many readers identifying them as false.

Generative artificial intelligence software can play a role in this type of online storytelling. Also, the websites have found certain kinds of rumors spread more efficiently than others, creating patterns.

For example, many such stories falsely claim a high-profile person is suing "The View." Another set of rumors asserts a rich person with conservative views, such as Trump adviser Elon Musk, has bought the network and canceled the show. A third claims the network is adding conservative pundits as co-hosts.

Below are specific examples of those rumors, in addition to other types of claims involving "The View." Use our contact form to report suspicious stories you see about the show.
