How to contribute to SmartCompany
SmartCompany accepts guest contributions from SME business owners, startup founders, managers, entrepreneurs, investors and relevant subject matter experts.
The guest contributions published within SmartCompany are:
1. Opinion-based and focused on, or linked to, the news cycle
They are short, sharp and to the point, and have a topical and time-sensitive element to them.
2. Practical and specific advice to business owners
These guest contributions are unique in that they are not newsy but evergreen, are longer and more in-depth. Each piece should leave the reader with an understanding of how to tackle a task.
These can be short, line-by-line pieces that function as ‘how to’ guides, or longer pieces that explain how a certain segment of business practice works. We are also seeking templates, high-quality HTML embeddable tools and infographics.

SmartCompany exists to champion small business owners and give them the news and tools to survive and thrive in the modern Australian economy. We regularly publish third-party opinions, commentary and analysis when it helps us achieve our mission. Typically submissions are focused on or linked to the news cycle, or provide practical, specific advice to business owners. We do not publish opinions, commentary or analysis from third parties that push their own commercial objectives.
In short: SmartCompany guest contributions cannot be promotional.
This means being one step removed from your business and your product, service or offering. We’re happy for you to talk about your industry or what you have deep expertise in, as long as you aren’t effectively saying your product or service is the number one solution for people in that industry.
Guest contributions must be original and exclusive to SmartCompany. This means the piece is not being published by another media outlet.
