Chris Impey is University Distinguished Professor and Deputy Head of Astronomy at the University of Arizona. He has 170 refereed publications, and his research has been supported by $20 million in grants from NASA and the NSF. He has won eleven teaching awards, and he is teaching an online class with over 15,000 enrolled. Impey is a past VP of the American Astronomical Society and he has been an NSF Distinguished Teaching Scholar, the Carnegie Council’s Arizona Professor of the Year, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Professor.
