Learning Objectives

Definition & Purpose
Definition:
A procedure text is a text that explains
how to do or make something step by
step.
Purpose:
To tell the readers how to do or make
something correctly.
Generic Structure
1. Goal: The purpose of the activity.
2. Materials/Ingredients: What we need
(optional).
3. Steps/Methods: The actions to
complete the task.
Language Features
- Imperative sentences (e.g., 'Mix the
flour.')
- Action verbs (e.g., cut, pour, boil)
- Connectives (e.g., first, then, finally)
- Simple present tense
Example: How to Make Fried
Rice
Goal: To make delicious fried rice.
Materials:
- 2 plates of rice
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper
- Cooking oil
Steps:
1. Heat the oil.
2. Sauté the garlic.
3. Add the egg and scramble.
4. Add the rice.
5. Add salt & pepper.
6. Stir well and serve.
Structure Analysis
Goal: To make delicious fried rice.
Materials: 2 plates of rice, 2 cloves of
garlic, 1 egg, salt & pepper, cooking oil.
Steps: 1) Heat oil, 2) Sauté garlic, 3) Add
egg, 4) Add rice, 5) Add seasoning, 6) Stir
& serve.

Text: How to Make a Cup of Tea
1. Boil water.
2. Put a tea bag in a cup.
3. Pour the hot water.
4. Add sugar if desired.
5. Stir well.
Writing Task
Write your own procedure text about:
- How to make your favorite snack
OR
- How to operate a device (e.g., a
blender, rice cooker)
Include:
- Goal
- Materials (if needed)
- Steps
Conclusion
Procedure text tells us how to do
something step-by-step.
Remember:
- Use imperative sentences.
- Arrange steps in order.
- Be clear and concise.
