TYPES OF COMPUTERS

DESKTOP COMPUTERS
• Definition: Personal computers with
separate monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
They are not portable.
• Uses: Office work, gaming, graphics design,
Internet browsing.
• Advantages: They are cheap, easy to
upgrade, and have better performance.
• Disadvantages: They are not portable,
needs electricity, cluttered desk.
LAPTOPS
• Definition: Portable computer with
screen and keyboard attached.
• Uses: completing school work, online
learning, browsing.
• Advantages: It is portable, uses
battery, takes less space.
• Disadvantages: Easy to steal, limited
battery life, hard to upgrade.
SMARTPHONES
• Definition:
• Mobile phones with advanced features (apps,
camera, internet).
• Uses:
• Calling, messaging, browsing, taking photos, using
apps.
• Advantages:
• It is portable, access internet on the move, has a
reasonable battery life.
• Disadvantages:
• Small screen, limited memory space, easily stolen.
TABLETS
• Definition:
• Portable touchscreen device, with a larger screen
than a smartphone.
• Uses:
• Reading, watching videos, browsing, learning apps.
• Advantages:
• Larger screen, portable, long battery life.
• Disadvantages:
• Typing is slower than a laptop, limited memory
space, more expensive than phones.
PHABLET
• Definition:
• Hybrid of a phone and tablet; bigger than a
phone but smaller than a tablet.
• Uses:
• Calling, browsing, reading, videos.
• Advantages:
• Portable, combines phone and tablet features,
long battery life.
• Disadvantages:
• May be awkward to hold for calls, limited to
certain brands.
ACTIVITY

ASSIGNMENT
1. Imagine your school wants to buy computers
for student use. Recommend which type of
computer they should buy and explain two
reasons for your choice.
2. Create a comparison table with at least 3
differences and 3 similarities between laptops
and tablets.
