TOEIC – Test of English for International Communication
• The Test Of English for International
Communication (TOEIC) was developed in order to assess
non-native English speakers’ professional English-language
communication skills. Listening and Reading is a popular
TOEIC exam to talk.
• The TOEIC Reading and Listening exam lasts 2 hours. The
test is divided into 2 sections: listening and reading, which
are always taken in the same order. Each section contains
100 questions. There are 4 parts in the listening paper and 3
parts in the reading paper. Totally 7 parts to the exam in
total.
The TOEIC assessment family is composed of three different
tests:
• The TOEIC® Listening and Reading test measures proficiency in
English reading and listening skills, from beginner to advanced
level (A1-C1). A paper-based, multiple-choice test.
• The TOEIC® Speaking and Writing tests measure proficiency in
English speaking and writing skills, from beginner to advanced
level (A1-C1). The Speaking and Writing tests are online.
• The TOEIC Bridge™ test measures proficiency in English
reading and listening skills, from beginner to intermediate level
(A1-B1). A paper-based, multiple-choice test.

What is a TOEFL exam?
TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. The TOEFL exam
is conducted to measure the English language ability of candidates who
are non-native speakers. It is the most popular and significant entrance
language test in the world after IELTS. TOEFL is administered by the
international body known as Educational Testing Service, a private non-
profit organisation.
Negara-negara yang umumnya mensyaratkan sertifikat TOEFL (Test of
English as a Foreign Language) untuk tujuan pendidikan, imigrasi, atau
profesional adalah Amerika Serikat, Inggris, Kanada, Australia,
Selandia Baru, dan Irlandia. Banyak universitas di negara-negara
Eropa dan Asia juga menerima TOEFL sebagai bukti kemampuan
bahasa Inggris.
• Skor TOEFL menunjukkan tingkat kemahiran bahasa Inggris seseorang. Ada
dua jenis tes TOEFL yang umum: TOEFL iBT dan TOEFL ITP. TOEFL iBT
(Internet Based Test)memiliki skor maksimum 120, sedangkan TOEFL ITP

untuk iBT dan 500-550 untuk ITP

There are three types of TOEFL tests- paper-based, computer-based, and online version-based.
Currently, TOEFL exams are widely in the online format. There are generally four areas in the
TOEFL test. They are:
• Reading section: The reading test comprises comprehension sections with reading passages.
There will be 50 questions in the reading part. The time allotted for the reading comprehension
will be 55 minutes.
• Listening section: The listening section consists of three parts. While the first listening section
contains questions about short conversations, the second part includes long discussions.
• Writing section: The writing section is designed to measure the candidate’s ability to write
effectively in English. This test will be based on an academic setting. In the writing test, the
candidate will write a short passage based on a listening lecture.
• Speaking section: The speaking test is conducted to measure the candidate’s ability to
communicate effectively in an academic setting. The speaking test will be evaluated based on the
delivery, language use, and topic development. There are two tasks in the speaking test-
independent task and integrated task. The different job requires the candidate to express their
self-opinion on familiar topics, while the integrated task requires the candidate to listen to an
audio clip and answer.

The full form of IELTS is the International English Language
Testing System.
• As English is known as the second language worldwide,
whenever you want to immigrate to another country for
study or work purpose you need to pass an English test. And
IELTS is the one that helps in this case by certifying you with
scores. It measures your language proficiency using a band
scale of 9 (nine) so that the level of proficiency can be
measured clearly. Band score 9 is considered as best. Only
the experts can gain the band score 9.

Here's a breakdown of the IELTS band scores:
• Band 9: Expert User - Demonstrates complete and fluent command of the language.
• Band 8: Very Good User - Has fully operational command of the language with only
occasional minor inaccuracies.
• Band 7: Good User - Generally handles complex language well and understands detailed
reasoning.
• Band 6: Competent User - Effectively uses the language, though with some inaccuracies,
inappropriacies, and misunderstandings.
• Band 5: Modest User - Has partial command of the language and copes with overall
meaning in most situations, though with frequent errors.
• Band 4: Limited User - Basic competence is limited to familiar situations.
• Band 3: Extremely Limited User - Conveys and understands only general meaning in very
familiar situations.
• Band 2: Intermittent User - Has great difficulty understanding written or spoken English.
• Band 1: Non-User - Essentially has no ability to use the language beyond a few isolated
words.
