OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH
AND SAFETY POLICIES
AND PROCEDURES
COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING FOR GRADE
9
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
AT THE END OF THE
LESSON
YOU WILL BE ABLE
TO:
1. Identify the basic precautions and procedures in planning, preparing,
installing and testing of computer hardware and software.
2. Determine the effects of computers to the people, health risk, and to the
environment.
OHS POLICIES AND
PROCEDURES
During installation and initial test,
careful planning and preparation are
to be done. To avoid personal injury
and damages to wiring due to sharp
pins on connectors and printed
circuit assemblies, rough chassis
edges and corners, and hot
components

PRECAUTIONS
AND
PROCEDURES
OHS POLICIES AND
PROCEDURES
1. Before starting
the installation, read
carefully the
documentation and
procedures on any
hardware and
software settings
that may be
required.
2. Failure to do
the proper
jumper setting
may cause
damage to
your CPU.
OHS POLICIES AND
PROCEDURES
3. Without an
effective cooling
fan, the CPU can
overheat and
cause damage to
both CPU and
the
motherboard.
OHS POLICIES AND
PROCEDURES
3. Without an
effective cooling
fan, the CPU can
overheat and
cause damage to
both CPU and
the
motherboard.
4. Each bank
must have
the same
size and type
of memory
installed in
pairs.
5. Before adding and
removing any other
system components,
make sure that you
unplug your power
supply. Failure to do
so may cause
damage to your
motherboard and in
the system
component
6. If the computer does
not pass any of the
power on self-test
(POST), the computer
will receive an irregular
power on self-test. An
irregular POST is a
beep code which is
different from the
standard beep which
can either be no beeps
at all or a combination
of different beeps.
WHAT IS THIS TOPIC ABOUT?
JUPITER NEPTUNE
Jupiter is a gas giant Neptune is the
and the biggest farthest planet from
planet the Sun
VENUS MARS
Venus has a Despite being red,
beautiful name, but Mars is actually a
it is hot cold place
FA # 1
1. Careful planning and preparation should be done
during installation and initial testing to avoid
injury and hardware damage.
2. You can ignore sharp pins and rough edges during
installation as they do not pose any risk.
3. Improper jumper settings can cause damage to
your CPU.
4. It is safe to plug in the power supply while adding
or removing system components.
FA # 1
5. A computer with no cooling fan can overheat
and damage the CPU and motherboard.
6. All memory banks must have the same size
and type of memory installed in pairs.
7. The Power-On Self-Test (POST) is a process that
checks the computer hardware before booting the
operating system.
8. Hot components inside the system unit can
cause burns if touched carelessly.
FA # 1
9. It is not necessary to unplug the power supply
if you are just changing RAM.
10. Cooling systems like fans are optional and do
not affect the CPU’s performance or safety.
