Equatorial Climatic Region

The equatorial climatic region, located around the Equator (5°N to 5°S), is characterized by hot and humid weather year-round, with temperatures between 25°C and 28°C and heavy rainfall of 2000–3000 mm annually. This region hosts dense tropical rainforests with rich biodiversity and nutrient-poor laterite soils, while human activities such as logging and agriculture contribute to challenges like deforestation and biodiversity loss. Key wildlife includes various mammals, birds, and reptiles, many of which are endangered due to habitat destruction.

TNT PRESENTATION
Equatorial
Climatic Region
 Equatorial climates are usually hot and wet
throughout the year. It is ideal weather for
rainforests, and so most of the world's
rainforests are located in this region. The rains,
along with the hot weather, lead to the
Equatorial climate being extremely humid.

 They are hot and wet all year round – this

creates a humid climate. The annual rainfall
close rainfall , Water droplets that fall from
clouds. is high as it rains almost every day. The
temperatures are constant all year round – the
temperature range is usually only a few
degrees.

Humidity: Very high, often above 80%.

Seasons: No real seasons—consistent day

length (~12 hours) all year.
Tropical Rainforest is the dominant
vegetation.

5. Human Activities

Shifting cultivation (slash-and-burn farming).

Logging and commercial plantations (rubber, cocoa, oil palm).

Urban expansion and mining are increasing.

Traditional communities live in harmony with the forest.

6.
Challenges
•Deforestation for timber and agriculture.
•Loss of biodiversity.
•Soil degradation and erosion.
•Effects of climate change (e.g., altered rainfall
patterns).

New Guinea)
Summary Located around the Equator (5°N to 5°S) in areas like
the Amazon, Congo, and Southeast Asia.

Has hot, humid weather all year with temperatures

between 25°C and 28°C.

Experiences heavy, evenly distributed rainfall (2000–

3000 mm annually), mostly afternoon showers.

Vegetation is dense tropical rainforest with tall

evergreen trees and rich biodiversity.

Soils are laterite, nutrient-poor due to heavy rainfall

leaching minerals.

Wildlife is diverse, including many unique species of

mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects.

Human activities include shifting cultivation, logging,

plantations, and urbanization.

Major problems are deforestation, loss of biodiversity,

soil erosion, and climate change impacts.
