an Application Letter

3. The job title or the name of the person who

organization;
4. The greeting;
5. Paragraph 1 mentions where you found out
about the vacancy and names the job you are
applying for;
6. Paragraph 2 presents you to the employer,
explains why you want to apply for the position.;
7. Paragraph 3 mentions your previous work
experience ( if any),skills and abilities that make
you suitable for the job and suggests ways of
getting in touch with you;
8. Closing Expressions;
9. The ending;
10. Your signature;
11. Your full name printed underneath.

Formal letters are characterized by:
• Formal greetings and endings, e.g. Dear Mr.

• Formal vocabulary/ set phrases, e.g. I am
writing to apply for the position of… .
• Formal linkers/ phrases, e.g. For this reason,

• The use of the passive, e.g. I can be

• The use of full forms , e.g. I have always been
interested in… ( Not: I’ve always… )
Put the following in the right order, and then rewrite the letter in paragraphs
adding a greeting and your name.
