Administering the Repository

• The repository and the Content Server are administered using

Documentum Administrator (DA) Primary tool for Documentum
system administration
 Documentum Composer and DAR files
• Composer is used to create or modify artifacts and package them together as a
Documentum Project
An artifact is a Documentum resource – for example, a permission set
template, lifecycle, alias set, method, etc.
• A DAR file is the executable binary version of a Documentum Project
• An administrator
 Creates and modifies artifacts
Installs artifacts into a repository, using either a Documentum Project or a
DAR file
 Documentum Application Builder (DAB)
• Used to create or modify permission set templates, lifecycles, alias sets, etc.
• Required by some Documentum applications that cannot use Composer and
DAR files, for example, Content Storage Services (CSS)
DQL - Used to manipulate groups of objects usually not exposed in DA

Global Registry Repository

• As in 5.3 SP1, the global registry repository is used as a central

point of storage for information used in one or more repositories,
including
Network locations, which are used for Web-based distributed content (with
ACS and BOCS servers)
 Service-based Business Objects (SBOs)
• If a single repository is installed, it must be designated as a global
registry
• If the site has multiple production repositories, EMC
Documentum recommends designating only one repository as a
global registry

Overview

• You can upgrade the global registry by:

Upgrading repository containing the global registry to Content Server 6 (or
later)
OR
Using the global registry copy utility to copy the global registry and its
contents from a 5.3.x repository to a Content Server 6 repository
• Using the copy utility is useful in multiple repository
environments some repositories will use Content Server 6.x and
others will use Content Server 5.3.x
The Content Server 6.x repositories use the new version 6.x global registry
The Content Server 5.3.x repositories continue to use the 5.3.x global
registry

- When a runtime exception occurs, a setupError.log file is
generated, which contains stack trace, failed bean id, etc.
- SetupError.log is located either in the current working
directory where the installer is being launched OR in the user’s
home directory if the current working directory is not writable
• If installer fails during repository configuration, check
DOCUMENTUM/dba/log/repository_name.log
