What is an Interview?

Remember!
Interview is a two way process!

The Interviewers are trying to find out a suitable candidate who will fit their profile and you are trying to find whether the organization and its ambience suits your skills, talents and qualifications.
You need not feel like a victim.

The

to success is preparation!

Know yourself- your qualification, skills & talents. Try to match these with the qualities required for the job you are applying for. Research the company, get to know its motto, values, market position etc. Prepare necessary materials (Copies of resume, references, portfolio/pen, palm pilot or organizer, breath mints) .

The D- Day! (Day of Interview)

Allow yourself plenty of time to get ready and reach the venue at least 30 min. before the interview. It is a good idea to arrange for someone who can accompany you up to the venue Make sure, youve taken all the necessary thing e.g. certificates with you. Avoid carrying extra baggage As you get to the venue, visit the washroom, check your hair, dress and overall appearance

Remember some last minute tips

Review the likely questions or the questions you encountered in the previous interviews. Check you breath. Dress appropriately (Formal Dress only) Dont forget to wear a sincere smile Appear hygienic Appear confident Notify the reception to mark
against your name to indicate your presence for the interview
It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not. ~ Author Unknown

Entering the Interview Room

Remember that the first impression you give upon entering is the impression that will tell more about you than what happens afterwards.

Knock the door and ask for permission before entering. Leave the door open if it was open or close it behind you if it was initially closed.
Give a smile and greet appropriately, maintain eye contact. Offer handshake only if offered by the interviewers. Handshake should convey firmness and warmth

Body Language: What signals are you sending?

Positive Signals
Leaning forward = interest Open body posture Smiling = friendly Nodding = attentive and alert Eye contact = curious and focused Sitting upright in the chair with hands on your lap

Negative Signals
Crossed arms and legs = defensive Fidgeting hands or tapping feet = nervous or bored Lack of eye contact = untrustworthy Leaning back= discomfort Slouching while sitting and putting hands on the desk.

Handling Questions!
Q. Introduce yourself. A. Name, Qualification, Work Experience, Family- Background, Hobbies & Interest, Strengths, Aim in Life Q. Why did you apply for this job? A. Relate your qualification and experience to the job profile. Also speak about your passion and long term desire to see yourself doing this job Q. What did you like most/least about your last job? A. Tell things like learning new things, cooperation from colleagues, motivation from superiors etc. Limited growth or learning opportunity could be the answer for the least.

Handling Questions !
Q. What are your strength and weaknesses? A. Give more voice to your strengths, relate them to your job profile. Talk only about one or two weaknesses and say how you are making efforts to overcome them.

Q. Tell us about your last job or boss? A. Always answer positively. Never remark negatively or sarcastically on your last job, colleagues or boss Q. Why do you want to leave your present job? A. Tell that you are happy with your present job but then the growth is limited and you want to learn, experience and grow more

Handling Questions!
Q. Why should we select you? A. Relate your qualification, experience and skills to the job profile. Voice your passion and enthusiasm for the job that makes you stand apart from the rest. Q. Describe a situation where you worked under pressure. A. Describe in short the context of your experience and your answer should end on a positive note stating how you managed the pressure to push you forward.

Q. What would you do in a situation where a team member is not pulling his/her weight? A. Say that you will try to find out the problem, speak in person with the concerned person and see where you could help him/her to regain confidence and motivation.

Do you have any questions to ask?

Dont bypass this chance. Ask max. 2 to 3 questions. Dont ask about your selection or salary. Good Questions: What chances do I have to learn further? What growth chances could I expect in your company? What type of assignment can I expect in my first year?
