Paracetamol is made from chemical reaction two reactant
(amino phenol and ethanoic anhydride). The other by
product is ethanoic acid. The word and chemical equation
is given below.

In all chemical reactions, the atoms rearrange and join

together differently. The number and mass of each type of
atom do not change. This means that the total mass of
reactant is equal to the total mass of product. This
is the conservation of mass.
Calculate number of carbon and hydrogen atoms in the reactant and product side of
above reaction ?

Calculate the total mass of reactants and the
products? Write the conclusion
from the below
calculation you have
made.

Therefore, we can conclude

that
Total Mass of reactants
= Total mass of products

Reactant: Product:
O.72g +0.68g = 1.40g 1.00g +0.40g = 1.40g

the reacting masses in a chemical reaction.
MAIN LEARNING
The ratios of the reactants to the mass of
paracetamol is shown below:

Aminophenol : ethanoic anhydride :

paracetamol

0.72 : 0.68 : 1.00

The ratio is always the same, whatever the amount

of paracetamol you want to make.

To find the masses of reactant to make 100g of

paracetamol, multiply all the number in the ratio by
100.
