Graphing Sinusoids 1

The document provides an overview of functions, particularly trigonometric functions such as sine, cosine, and tangent, emphasizing their definitions, representations, and importance in modeling relationships. It includes details on graphing these functions, their properties like amplitude and period, and practical examples for finding these parameters. A link to a video for further learning is also included.

What is a function?
• Function is a specific type of relation between two sets, typically referred to as the
domain and the codomain (range). A function assigns each element from the domain
exactly one element in the codomain.

• Functions are integral to understanding and modeling relationships in various fields,

making them essential tools for problem-solving and decision-making in real life.

• Can be represented by
• A set of ordered pairs
• Mapping / rule
• Table of x and y
• Functional notation
• graph

(range) notation
Trigonometric functions, like sine, cosine, and tangent,
are defined using functional notation. This notation
expresses the relationship between an input angle (often
in radians or degrees) and its corresponding output value
(a real number representing a ratio of sides in a right
triangle or a point on the unit circle)

This time, we will increase to a higher level by adding the parameters
amplitude and period into our trigonometric functions

Application
For practice
1. y=sin 4x
• Install Desmos B=4
• Try to input the following Period= 2∏/B
Period =2∏/4
Period= ∏/2
