BEE Presentation.

The document discusses the full wave rectifier, a circuit that converts AC voltage into pulsating DC voltage using both half cycles of AC. It describes two types of full wave rectifiers: center tapped and bridge rectifiers, detailing their configurations and operations. The bridge rectifier is highlighted for its efficiency and cost-effectiveness, as it does not require a center tapped transformer.

Full Wave Ractifier
Full
wave Rectifier

• A full wave rectifier is a circuit, which converts

AC voltage into pulsating DC voltage using both
half cycles of the applied ac voltage.
• This type of rectifiers is used in a wide variety
of applications, including power supplies,
audio amplifiers and radio receivers.

• In full wave rectifier circuit two diodes are now

used, from which one conducts during one half
cycle while the other conducts during the
other half cycle of the applied ac voltage.
Classification of Full Wave Rectifier

The full wave rectifier can be further classified mainly into

Following types.

1.Center tapped Full Wave Rectifier.

2.Full Wave Bridge Rectifier.
Center Tapped Full Wave rectifier

The center tapped full wave rectifier two diodes were used.
These diodes are connected to the center tapped secondary
winding of the transformer.
The positive terminal of two diodes is connected to the two
ends of transformer. And it divides the total secondary voltage
into equal parts.
The center-tap is usually considered as the ground point or
the zero voltage reference point.
Working Of Full Wave Bridge rectifier

• When we apply an AC voltage across the bridge.

• During The Positive half cycle, terminal 1 becomes
positive, and terminal 2 becomes negative.
1
• This will cause the diode D1 and D2 to become
forward biased and will allow current though
3 4 them.
• At the same time, diodes D3 and D4 will be reverse
biased and will block the current through them.
2 • The current will flow from 1 to 4, to 3 to 2.
• For positive half cycle Diode 1 and Diode 2 will be
in series.
Full Wave Bridge Rectifier

• Full wave bridge rectifier is a type of single phase

rectifier uses four individual rectifying diodes connected
in a closed loop “Bridge” configuration to produced the
desired output.
• The main advantage of this bridge circuit is that it does
not require a special centre tapped transformer, thereby
reducing its size and cost.
• The single secondary winding is connected to one side
of the diode bridge network and the load to the other
side.

• During The Negative half cycle, terminal 1

becomes Negative, and terminal 2 becomes
Positive.
• This will cause the diode D3 and D3 to become
forward biased and will allow current though
1 them.
• At the same time, diodes D1 and D2 will be reverse
biased and will block the current through them.
3 4 • The current will flow from 2 to 4, to 3 to 1.
• For positive half cycle Diode 3 and Diode 4 will be
in series.

2
• The current flowing through the load is the same
direction as before.
