Math Application Problem Unit1 GEOM-041

The document outlines a project for a Geometry course, consisting of application problems at the end of each module. Students are required to apply problem-solving skills by defining, planning, executing, and evaluating their solutions through various tasks related to building shapes, rotations, dilations, and congruent triangles. Each module includes specific instructions for drawing and labeling geometric figures and providing explanations for their properties.

Geometry: Part 1

Unit 1 Project
Directions
At the end of each module, you will have an application problem that will help you apply the skills taught
throughout the module. You will submit this project document at the end of each unit (i.e., every 4 modules).

Note that just like our Modeled Practice questions, each application problem asks you to address the four criteria
for the skill of Problem-Solving: Define (Understand the Problem), Determine (Make a Plan), Execute (Solve the
Problem), and Evaluate (Check Your Solution).

Be sure to save this document where you know how and where to find it. This template is a place for you to show
your work and present your solutions. Make sure your work is clear and you show all of your steps that you took
to solve the application problem.

You CAN do your work on paper, take an image of your work, and paste that image onto this template.

Module 1 Application Problem

Module 1 Application Problem: Creating Buildings

Draw at least three buildings, including one that is your favorite shape. Then, label two buildings using the proper
notation for their shape. Some ways to label your buildings are the following:

• Use the name of the shape and letters that represent the vertices or center (like triangle ABC, circle Q, or
quadrilateral WXYZ).
• Use the symbol for the shape and letters that represent the vertices or center (like ∆ABC, , ◯Q, or ◻WXYZ).

Module 2 Application Problem: Rotation of a Building

Choose one building from the previous application problem and draw a rotation of it. Label the new building you
created. Then, describe the location and dimensions of the building you created in the explanation box below.

Module 3 Application Problem: Dilation of a Building

Choose one building from the previous application problems and create a dilation of it. Label the new building you
created. Then, describe the dimensions of the building you created in the explanation box below.

Module 4 Application Problem: Congruent Right Triangles

Draw at least two congruent right triangles that could be found in a city. Label what the triangles are in the city
(malls, ponds, or whatever else you want them to be). Then, describe why the triangles are congruent in the
explanation box below.
