4- Respect and empathy

• What is the meaning of respect?

Respect is about thinking of other people and

their feelings.
In school, we respect others by:
considering the needs and feelings of other people;
being polite to others by using manners,
such as saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’;
celebrating differences.
In our class, we respect each
other by:
treating everyone with kindness;

showing good manners;

listening to others;

helping each other;

talking nicely to one another.

Let's look at some behaviours and think about whether
they are respectful behaviours.
Putting a hand up to answer a question.

Shouting at a classmate.
Damaging other people’s belongings.

Using manners.
Laughing at someone when they are hurt.
Taking turns.
In our class, we all need to respect each other.

We are learning to respect everyone in the class.

Our teacher will help us with this.

4- Respect and empathy

• What is the meaning of empathy?

Empathy is the ability to understand

and share the feelings of another.
