WK2 LN G8 Che 1

The document outlines a chemistry lesson focused on atomic structure for grades 9-12, with a duration of 115 minutes. It defines an atom as the smallest indivisible particle of an element and describes its three fundamental particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons are positively charged and located in the nucleus, neutrons have no charge and the same mass as protons, while electrons are negatively charged and found outside the nucleus, contributing to the atom's neutrality.

Success Criteria
 To define atom
 To state the fundamental particles of atom .
Definition of atom

Atom is the smallest indivisible particles of an

element .
FUNDAMENTAL PARTICLES OF
AN
ATOM
• An atom consists of three fundamental particles as shown in the first
slide . They are
• Proton
• Neutron and
• Electron .
PROTON
• A proton is the positive charge in an atom it is located inside the
nuucleous of an atom and it has a mass of
NUETRON
• Nuetron is found inside the nueclous , it has no charge and it has the
same mass as proton
Electron
• Electron is found outside the nucleus , it has negative charge and a
negligible mass .
• The positive proton and the negative electon make an atom neutral
