As the corporation grew, so did its potential for reaching more people.

With this realization, Jollibee Foundation was established in December 2004 to make giving back an organized corporate commitment. Its mission is to invest in people and help them succeed in the way Jollibee knows how. This meant taking the values, the system, the tools, and the years of experience that made Jollibee what it is today and sharing it with the people they most ascribe their successes to: the everyday Filipino.

Jollibee Foundation is the corporate social responsibility arm of the Jollibee Foods Corporation. It is a nonstock, nonprofit organization certified under PCNC (Philippine Council for NGO Certification). Annually, the JFC Family (Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich, Red Ribbon, Delifrance, Manong Pepe, Yonghe King and Hongzhuangyan) allocates 1% of its net profits to the Foundation to fund its work in all areas: from community and leadership development, to scholarships and feeding programs, even relief aid during disasters.

Together with their partners,they jollify our communities with: Improved access to Education for the youth; Leadership development for local organizations; Livelihood programs for small farmers; Environment-friendly initiatives; and Decent Housing and Disaster Relief for calamity-stricken regions.

Jollibee Foundation envisions that every Filipino is able to access basic community services and live a life defined by dignity, purpose and active participation in nation-building.

Their work is guided by the JFC corporate values, namely, excellence, honesty and integrity, frugality, teamwork, humility to listen and learn, respect for the individual, spirit of family and fun, and customer-focus. They partner with communities and find synergy with other institutions to ensure that their programs are strategic and sustainable. Jollibee Foundation s projects are mainly in the categories of Education, Leadership Development, Livelihood, Environment-friendly initiatives and Housing and Disaster Relief.

Duties and Responsibilities


Improving the access of deserving high school students to post-secondary education, training and employment in courses related to JFC businesses leading to eventual employment at JFC and other establishments. In-school feeding of undernourished students in communities with JFC brand presence and encouraging employee volunteerism for implementation. Assisting small farmers develop their capability to grow and become potential suppliers of some raw material requirements of JFC and others. Developing viable small enterprises in relation to the development of potential small entrepreneurs as JFC franchisees.

Now on its 15th year of sharing the joy of Christmas to Filipino children, the Jollibee MaAga ang Pasko is the longest-running corporate social responsibility (CSR) program by a fast food chain. Through the years it has evolved beyond being a simple toy-and-book collection drive, now partnering with schools and other organizations to enable the campaign to grow in size and touch the lives of more underprivileged kids. 2009 marked many milestones for MaAga ang Pasko as it opened new channels to encourage donations, spark volunteerism and implement activities that foster goodwill and sharing during Christmas time.

BUSOG, LUSOG, TALINO (BLT)


 "Let no pupil stay out of school because of hunger

and malnutrition." This battle cry unifies our Busog, Lusog, Talino (BLT) stakeholders nationwide. BLT fosters collaboration among public and private sector partners to ensure better health and nutrition among schoolchildren.

 Since the program started, BLT's daily school

lunch feeding has nourished over 25,000 Grades 1 and 2 pupils from 448 schools in 96 towns/cities nationwide. This is a big leap for the program which started out with 281 pupils in 8 schools way back in 2007. Instrumental to the program expansion is the BLT Social Franchise System , which enables local implementing partners ("franchisees") to replicate the program in various areas to reach more schools..

PROJECT ACE (Improving Access, Curriculum and Employability in HRM Education)

Seeking a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) is often a hard-to-reach dream for financially disadvantaged high school graduates. Project ACE combines scholarship support in HRM education and in-store training in JFC stores to young people, in collaboration with partner schools. The first batch of 80 scholars graduated with an Associate Degree in March 2010.

TECHNICAL SKILLS TRAINING Jollibee Foundation offers a 15-month technical skills training to high school graduates who seek higher education but are financially constrained from doing so. Value formation complements the technical training to develop the scholars good moral character.

Bridging Farmers to the JFC Supply Chain


 Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) is home to the

largest quick-service food chains in the country. Its daily requirement for raw ingredients such as rice and vegetables, puts the company in a unique position to assist small farmers achieve a more sustainable livelihood. The Jollibee Foundation as the corporate social responsibility arm (CSR) of JFC converted this opportunity into a program it could develop to improve the incomes of small farmers.

Bridging Farmers to the JFC Supply Chain

JFC, the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines, and the National Livelihood Development Corporation (NLDC) came together in 2008 to set up the Bridging Farmers to the JFC Supply Chain Project that aims to link small farmers to the supply chain of institutional buyers like JFC. For the pilot year of the project (2008 2009), six (6) municipalities in the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Bukidnon, and Zamboanga Sibugay participated in the project. The project provided training to increase the farmers' productivity and gain skills in enterprise management as well as improve their access to credit through the help of partner finance institutions.

Jollibee Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village, Butuan City

The Foundation embarked on its 3rd GK village in Butuan City in June 2009, with 49 families living in flood-prone areas in the city benefiting from the project. This project forms part of a wider effort of Gawad Kalinga, the Fr. Saturino Urios University and the Local Government of Butuan, to provide safe and decent housing and basic social services to families currently residing along the riverbanks of the Agusan River. In 2010, the Foundation will also provide livelihood opportunities and pre-school education to community members through the GK BayanAnihan Program and Sibol Program, respectively.

Jollibee Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village, Bontoc, Southern Leyte

The landslide that took place in Guinsaungon, Saint Bernard, on February 17, 2006 took an estimated 1,800 lives including those of children in the village school. Many families were left living in declared danger zones that were vulnerable to another landslide. Together with Gawad Kalinga, the Foundation built 100 new homes in Bontoc, Southern Leyte. The families in one of the declared danger zones were relocated in January 2008 to start a new and safer future. This was the first GK community with a disaster preventive outlook. The GK community also enjoys livelihood and pre-school education support from the Foundation through the GK Bayan-Anihan Program and Sibol Program.

Jollibee Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village, Sitio Pulo, Las Pinas

Sitio Pulo, Las Pinas, is the site of the first Jollibee Gawad Kalinga Village completed in December 2005. Today, it is home to fifty-one families, all of whom lost their former houses to the fire that razed the community. The Foundation along with JFC funded the building of the village, while 329 employees from Jollibee, Chowking, Red Ribbon, Greenwich, and Delifrance volunteered in the building of the houses. The Foundation is continuing the support provided by Red Ribbon over the last two school years to the Sibol school found inside the village.

Citizen-Responsive Leadership Development

With the goal of bringing more communities engaged in participatory governance, the Foundation partnered once again with AIM-Team Energy Center for Bridging Societal Divides to develop the capacity of universities all over the Philippines in the Bridging Leadership methodology. Partners in the academe are given the capacity to become the local resource that facilitates and supports Bridging Leaders in local undertakings. In order to ensure the sustainability of the Bridging Leadership process, a community of learners is cultivated among the partner institutions and caps off with an accreditation system. This nurtures trainers who have deep knowledge of the Bridging Leadership framework and have the capacity to implement actual programs.

Citizen-Responsive Governance, Nueva Vizcaya

In 2006, Jollibee Foundation along with AIM-Team Energy Center for Bridging Societal Divides came up with a unique proposition: What if our local governments were run like businesses that worked on the principle of corporate accountability and aimed to deliver services that satisfied the customer? The result was a 24-month project in two (2) municipalities in Nueva Vizcaya, Bayombong and Santa Fe, called Citizen Responsive Governance through Bridging Leadership. With dialogue and collaborative action as the key drivers of the project, the goal was to foster shared responsibility among the various stakeholders in the community to deliver more responsive basic services.

Through this leadership development project, the Foundation was given the opportunity to share the values and systems that are at the heart of the Foundation and are at work in JFC the very same values and systems that research shows citizens want from their own communities. The output of the project was a roadmap for development that the mayors of Bayombong and Santa Fe now use as the basis for collaborative programs to improve the citizen's quality of life in education, health, environment, livelihood and cultural preservation.

Tree-Planting and Nurturing Program


 Marikina Watershed, September - October 2010 One hundred eighty employees from the business units of Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) Main Office Jollibee, Chowking, Red Ribbon, Manong Pepe, and Jollibee Worldwide Services volunteered their time and energy to help reforest the Marikina Watershed during a series of Saturdays from September to October 2010. More than 3,000 trees were planted on eight hectares of critical watersheds.

 Biak-na-Bato and Mt. Banahaw, April - June 2009

Employee volunteers from the different brands of JFC climbed the historical Biak-na-Bato and mystical mountain of Banahaw in April to June 2009 to plant more than 3,000 trees. Through the Tree Nurturing Program spearheaded by the Foundation, eight (8) hectares of critical watersheds were reforested. Volunteers were very optimistic that their involvement will make a great contribution to reforestation efforts.

Water Management and Conservation


 Part of Jollibee s water management practice is

the use of hygienic waterless urinals in our stores. This odorless facility uses a special liquid sealant to prevent odors from escaping and funnel pure urine down the drain. Each waterless urinal saves around 150,000 liters of water a year.

Waste Management
 They also take our responsibility in waste

management very seriously, in full support and compliance to the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act. The Jollibee Group is currently reducing its use of styro packaging by shifting to washable melaware for dine-in services.
 They also practice solid waste segregation through a

comprehensive sorting process that begins at the store and continues to secondary facilities for material recovery and reprocessing.

Typhoons ONDOY, PEPENG, and SANTI, September-December 2009


 Around 6,500 families/individuals in affected areas in the

National Capital Region (NCR) and North Luzon were provided with rice donation and relief packs in coordination with GMA Kapuso Foundation, ABS-CBN Foundation, local government units and JFC employee volunteers. Eight public elementary schools in NCR, South Luzon and North Luzon were provided assistance in the form of classroom repair, learning materials, and school supplies through the Jollibee MaAga ang Pasko. Further, 16 public elementary schools in Rizal were provided with water filter kits donated by Temasek Foundation of Singapore.

 Affected families in the municipalities of Bani in

Pangasinan were provided with rice donation distributed by employee volunteers from Jollibee Alaminos City in coordination with GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Heavy Floods in Ilagan Isabela, November 2008


Relief packs were distributed to affected families in Brgy. Maranan and San Vicente in Ilagan, Isabela by store volunteers from Chowking Ilagan, Jollibee Ilagan, JB Aparri and JB Citimall Tuguegarao, in coordination with the Office of Municipal Mayor and the local unit of DSWD in Ilagan.

Complex Situation in Mindanao, September 2008


Food donation was provided to affected families in Datu Saudi Ampatuan in Maguindanao in coordination with ABSCBN Foundation. Meals were also provided to the volunteers and staff of GMA Kapuso Foundation during their relief operations in Iligan City and Compostela Valley.

Typhoon FRANK, June-July, 2008


Families in Iloilo City, as well as the municipalities of San Jose and San Remigio in Antique, were provided rice donation. The relief operations were conducted in coordination with ABSCBN Sagip Kapamilya, GMA Kapuso Foundation as well as the HR and Operations team of the different brands.

Typhoon COSME, May 2008


Affected families in the municipalities of Lingayen, Alaminos, Bugallon and Dagupan in Pangasinan were provided with rice donation distributed by employee volunteers from Jollibee and Chowking stores in coordination with ABS-CBN Foundation.

Office People are more interested in working for the company since it helps the society. The employees are more motivated by working for the welfare of the society. If the employees are motivated, more productivity is outcome. The employees will be more loyal to the company.

Community CSR gives the company a good reputation and image. The people will patronize the goods and services of the JFC group of companies. It will also attract more customers in its food and beverages services. The economic lives of the people in the community will develop. If there is good economic status of the community, more sales it will be for the company.

The foundation needs more funding so that its programs will reach more poverty burdened areas. Its programs are limited. Most of its programs are located only in the Luzon. The foundation currently can accommodate employee volunteers from the JFC group of companies. Jollibee Foundation is currently prioritizing programs within its scope of concern. Each request is evaluated based on urgency and relevance to the company's core values and the Foundation's main thrust. Its Technical Training Skills program have a limited capacity. Its tree planting activities are limited places only due to security and accessibility issues in some remote areas in country. Communication is also an issue, not all poverty stricken areas are not communicating to the foundation and some NGOs. They do not have sufficient communication equipment to address their concern.

CONCLUSION Jollibee Foundation has one of the best CSR compared to large companies in country. The strategic corporate social responsibility initiatives are mainly in the areas of Education, Housing and Community Development, Leadership Development, Environment, and Disaster Response. It helps areas that needs support. It shows that JFC really cares for the welfare of the people and the country.

RECOMMENDATIONS I recommend that the foundation also accepts volunteers from outside the organization. There are people that wants to help the society through volunteering in NGOs. If the foundation acquires more volunteers, it can reach out to other remote areas of the country that needs help. The foundation should acquire more funding through partnerships with other NGOs, the LGUs, and other companies in projects that would help the community and the environment.
