Forces

A force is defined as a push or pull that can change the size, shape, motion, or direction of an object. Forces can be categorized into contact forces, such as friction and tension, and non-contact forces, such as gravitational and magnetic forces. The document also mentions that force is a vector quantity and introduces the formula F=ma, which is Newton's Second Law of Motion.

FORCES

Force
- is a push or a pull
Effects or what forces can
do on objects:
1. A force can change the size and shape of an
object.
2. A force can make a stationary object move.
3. A force can speed up, slow down, or stop a
moving object.
4. A force can change the direction of a moving
object.
Examples of real-life
situations where forces
are applied:
• pushing a cart,
• kicking a soccer ball,
• modeling a lump of clay,
• the strong wind that moves a sailboat,
• or kicking hard an empty can used in a
game of Tumbang Preso.
Types of forces
1. Contact force
force between two objects that are in

physical contact

For example, kicking a soccer ball is

a contact force since physical contact is
between the foot and the ball
Types:
1.Friction: The resistance force between two surfaces in contact.
2.Tension Force: The force experienced by a rope or string when
pulled.
3.Normal Force: The force exerted by a surface to support the
weight of an object.
4. Applied Force: Force applied to an object by another object.
5. Buoyant Force: The upward force exerted by a fluid on an
immersed
object.
6. Elastic Force: The force exerted by a stretched or compressed
spring.
Noncontact Force
-is a force that act on bodies that are not in physical
contact
with each other
- These forces are acting at a distance
Types of non-contact forces are
• Gravitational Force
- force with which Earth pulls everything towards itself
- force of attraction between particles of matter

Example:
A ball thrown up returns back to Earth due to gravitational
force
Magnetic force
-Magnetic force of magnet attracts metals like iron, nickel,
cobalt etc.
- this force can act from a distance because a magnet is
surrounded by invisible field of magnetic force
Electrostatic Force

• -The electrostatic force is another type of non-

contact force which is observed in nature. You can
observe this force in action through the following activity:
• Activity
1. first rub the comb through your dry hairs
2. Now bring this comb near small bits of paper.
3. This comb would attract the bits of paper
towards itself.

Force
- is a vector quantity
-a vector quantity is a quantity that has both
magnitude
(size(size
or ornumerical value) and direction
numerical value)
Force measurer
F=ma
• The force formula, is also known as Newton’s Second law of motion
