DIRECT VARIATIONS

We say that ‘y varies directly


as x”, if y is expressed as the
product of some constant
number k and x
Example 1. y varies directly as x. If y = 12
when x = 4,

INVERSE VARIATIONS
If two variables, x and y, are so related that their product is
constant, that is xy = k, then y is said to vary inversely as x
or y is inversely proportional to x.
