Lecture Structure Division

Preliminary design is an analysis phase that estimates initial structural dimensions for beams, slabs, columns, and walls, which are then refined using computer programs. The design adheres to various standards, including SNI codes for structural concrete and earthquake resistance. A case study is provided, detailing the dimensions and calculations for beams, slabs, and columns based on specific load requirements and material properties.

PRELIMINARY

DESIGN
Structure Division
What does
Preliminary Design
mean ?
Preliminary design is an analysis stage to estimate
initial structural dimensions (Beams, Slabs, Column &
Wall etc) then will be calculated with computer
program to obtain efficient and strong dimensions.
Code & Standard :
Preliminary design will be carried out include beams, columns and slabs,
where the initial design is carried out referring to the regulations :

-SNI 2847:2019 (Persyaratan beton struktural untuk bangunan gedung dan penjelasan)

-SNI 1727:2020 (Beban desain minimum dan kriteria terkait untuk bangunan gedung
dan struktur lain)

-SNI 1729:2020 (Spesifikasi untuk bangunan gedung baja struktural)

-SNI 1726:2019 (Tata cara perencanaan ketahanan gempa untuk struktur

bangunan gedung dan non gedung)
CASE STUDY
Reference :

Floor Level : Roof

Tributary Area : 5500 x 9000 mm
Concrete Grade : f’c 30 MPa (Beam & Slab)
f’c 50 MPa (Column)

Unit Weight : 2400 kg/m3 (Reinforced Concrete)

Load : 100 kg/m2 (Add Dead Load)

100 kg/m2 (Live Load)
Beam
Concrete beams, also known as summers, are girders,
which take up the load of a floor or wall and relay it to
other structural components. The load capacity and/or
span of a ceiling can be increased by the use of
beams.
Beam
Main Beam Dimension (BI) :

Hmin = x 9 m = 750 mm

Bmin = x Hmin = 375 mm ~ 350

mm

SNI
Joist Dimension (BA) :
2847:2019

Hmin = x 9 m = 600 mm

Bmin = x Hmin = 300 mm

Slab
Concrete slabs are a common structural element of
modern buildings, consisting of flat, horizontal
surfaces made of cast concrete. Concrete slabs are
structural elements that receive live and dead loads
on the floor then be distributed to the beams and
columns to the lower structure.
Slab
Slab Thickness :

Ln = Shortest span of the Slab (2425

mm)

tmin = = 101,05 mm ~ 120 mm

SNI
2847:2019
Column
Columns are the transmitters of the entire building's
load to the foundation. Columns are the main
structure to carry the weight of the building and other
loads such as live loads and wind loads. Columns have
a very important function so that buildings do not
collapse
Calculate Selfweight Beam, Slab & Column (above) :
Column
SW Beam :

BI1 = 350 mm x 750 mm x 9000 mm = 2,36 m3

BI2 = 350 mm x 750 mm x 5500 mm = 1,44 m3
BA = 300 mm x 600 mm x 9000 mm = 1,62 m3

SW Beam = ( BI1 + BI2 + BA ) x Unit Weight

= ( 2,36 m3 + 1,44 m3 + 1,62 m3 ) x 2400
kg/m3
= 13.008 kg

SW Slab = Tributary Area x tSlab x Unit Weight

= 49,5 m2 x 0,12 m x 2400 kg/m3
= 14.256 kg

SW Concrete = SW Beam + SW Slab + SW Column

= 11.520 kg + 14.256 kg + 0 kg
= 27.264 kg
Column
Calculate Additional Load & Live
Load :
LL = LLRoof x Tributary Area
ADL = ADLRoof x Tributary Area = 100 kg/m2 x 49,5 m2
= 100 kg/m2 x 49,5 m2 = 4950 kg
= 4950 kg

Ultimate Load :

Pu = 1,2 ( SW Concrete + ADL ) + 1,6

( LL )

= 1,2 ( 27.264 kg + 4950 kg ) + 1,6

(4950)
= 38.656,8 kg + 7920 kg
= 46.576,8 kg
Column
SNI
2847:2019

Column cross-sectional area :

Ag =

= 26.100,7 mm2

= 161 mm ~ 450 mm

Use Column Dimension = 450 mm x

450 mm
Beam, Slab & Column
Dimension :
Beam
• BI = 350 mm x 750 mm
• BA = 300 mm x 600 mm

Slab
• 120 mm

Column
• 450 mm x 450 mm
