ROLE OF WRITING DEPARTMENT (MOSTLY ONE

• Creating story line (log line) & Deciding the genre


• Creating character sketch
• Writing story, script, screenplay (treatment) & dialogues
• Adding specific pointers related to cast, art props, costume, locations & etc for ease of assistants &
HOD’s of different departments
• Involving in Pre ,During & Post production process
ROLE OF DIRECTION (AD TEAM) DEPARTMENT
• Understanding & assisting director as per his/her vision of script
• Breaking down the script in terms of artists, locations, art, costume, production requirements & etc
• Making inline scripts out of master script in respect of voice overs, vfx, gfx, sfx, action sequences & etc
• Making marked scripts & scene coding in script
• Creating decks & sheets for art properties, costume changes, shot division, action props, picture vehicles, actor dates,
scheduling and etc
• Deciding Actors, Locations, Art props & etc
• Setting dates for meetings ,different trails, look tests & reading sessions
• Continuity check out, log handling, floor handling, clap handling, creating call sheets, costume continuity, script curating,
set running & etc
• Coordinating with other department’s HODs (or) their assistants & Actors in set
• Handling 2nd unit of shoot
• Assisting post production team as a member directly involved from set
• Suggesting creative & logistical inputs
ROLE OF CINEMATOGRAPHY (AC TEAM)
DEPARTMENT
• Making shot division & composition as per location, character, mood and other aesthetical values
• Deciding color pallet & making mood board
• Sorting the required equipment and operators
• Sorting lighting set up as per the locations & other aesthetics
• Deciding blocking with direction team in respect of actors, location, props & lighting
• Briefing actors on certain movements & actions with director
• Coordinating with costume & art team regarding color pallet (with art practical lighting too)
• Coordinating with focus puller, camera operator, gaffer and any person responsible for visuals
• Suggesting creative & logistical inputs to Direction & Production team
ROLE OF EDITING DEPARTMENT
• Spot editing – sorting useful footage & creating scene wise timeline shot every day
• Creating master timeline of film
• Color correction of footage
• Adding vfx, gfx & enhancing sfx to film as per the requirement
• Providing prerequisites to ad team for during shoot such as previous usable footage or certain kind of
digital display for different screens
• Coordinating with Direction, Cinematography, action direction, vfx teams
• Suggesting creative & logistical inputs to Direction & Cinematography team
ROLE OF ART DEPARTMENT
• Understanding character & tone of script for art perspective
• Listing down action & mentioned art properties
• Quoting a budget for requirements
• Making art decks & sheets
• Creating graphic designs and other printable material
• Coordinating with cinematography team regarding color pallet & practical lights
• Coordinating with costume team regarding color pallet
• Sourcing & creating art properties
• Suggesting creative & logistical inputs to Direction, Cinematography & Production team
ROLE OF SOUND DEPARTMENT
• Setting mics to actors
• Excluding any kind of unwanted noise
• Operating different types of mics
• Operating sound mixer
• Maintaining sound log
• Coordinating with Log ad or clap ad for exact clip
ROLE OF CASTING DEPARTMENT
• Understanding characters sketch
• Sorting actors who could play the character
• Briefing the character to actor
• Taking auditions and sending them to direction team
• Coordinating with short listed & selected actors
• Providing Crowd & feature cast
• Sorting the bills with production of actor
• Suggesting creative & logistical inputs to Direction team
ROLE OF COSTUME DEPARTMENT
• Understanding personality, profession, financial class and mind set as a whole as well as per the scene
of every character
• Listing & sorting mentioned costumes, accessories, footwear and etc in script
• Setting color pallet of clothing and accessories with coordination to Cinematography team
• Creating various costume decks
• Sourcing of costume
• Costume trails with actors
• On set tailoring of cloths in case of wear and tear
• Continuity check out of costume with costume ad
• Suggesting creative & logistical inputs to Direction, Cinematography & Production team
ROLE OF MAKE UP DEPARTMENT
• Understanding personality, profession, financial class and mind set as a whole as well as per the scene
of every character
• Sorting & listing any special requirement mentioned in script. Ex - blood on face
• Look test with actors
• Checking out if actors are not allergic to any product and finding alternatives if they are
• Regular touch ups in set
• Checking out hair and make up continuity with continuity supervisor
• Making sure that actors are ready on time for set
ROLE OF SPOT DEPARTMENT
• Timely distribution of food, drinks & medical supplies to crew in set
• Making sure that sitting and desk arrangements are done for crew & actors
• Securing department wise trunks/boxes in set
• Assisting in any kind of cleaning and heavy picking on set
• Making sure set has proper disposal system
• Quoting budget of above to Production team

TIPS FOR BEING A GOOD A.D

• Read the script multiple times


• Update your sheets regularly
• Take pictures/videos while on shoot for continuity
• Make customized and editable call sheet for the first 5-10 days of the shoot
• Make editable sides for the first 5-10 days of the shoot
• Keep your stationary handy on shoot
• Have good coordination with different departments
