BENEFITS CUSTOMIZED DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS
1.Better matching patients to drugs instead of "trial and
error"
2.Customized pharmaceuticals may eliminate life-
threatening adverse reactions.
3.Reduce costs of clinical trials
4.Quickly identifying total failures.
5.Favorable responses for particular backgrounds.
6.Improved efficacy of drugs.
5
Here are the demerits of customized drug
delivery systems :
* Costs are higher.
* Regulations are complex.
* Availability is limited.
* Development takes time.
* Dosage adjustments are difficult.

3D PRINTING IN PHARMACEUTICALS
• 3D printing is layer by layer production of 3D
objects from digital design.
• It include wide variety of manufacturing
technologies which are all based on digitally
controlled depositing of materials to create free
form geometries.
• This methods extensively used in field of bio-
manufacturing (especially for bone and tissue
engineering).
• 3D printing is revolutionizing cancer treatment by
enabling personalized, targeted, and more effective
therapies. 7
Advantages and Applications of 3DP in Pharmaceutical Drug Delivery:
Types of 3d printing
• 1. Inkjet printing
• 2. Zip dose
• 3. Thermal inkjet printing
• 4. Fused deposition modeling
8
9
• 2.ZipDose :
• A 3D printing technology for pharmaceuticals, creating
highly porous, rapidly disintegrating tablets for fast drug
delivery.
• Personalized 3D printed medicines with a high drug load
are produced using porous material. The procedure relies
on high dissolution and disintegration levels.
10
3.Thermal inkjet (TIJ)
1. Is a digital printing technology that uses heat
to vaporize ink, creating bubbles that force tiny
droplets onto a substrate.
2.High Print Quality: TIJ produces sharp, high-
resolution prints, suitable for detailed text and
graphics.
3.Low Maintenance: The print head is typically
integrated into the ink cartridge, so replacing the
cartridge essentially replaces the print head, 11
4. Fused deposition modeling

Bioelectric Medicines
• Bioelectric medicine is an instrument, apparatus, implements, machine, implant, Invitro
reagent .
Your body uses electricity:
• * Your nervous system sends electrical signals to control everything.
Targeting nerves, not just pills:
• * Instead of only using drugs, bioelectronic medicine uses electrical pulses to change how
nerves work.
Tiny devices, big changes:
• * Small electronic devices are used to send these electrical pulses to specific nerves.
Fixing problems with electricity:
• * This can help treat diseases by changing the electrical signals that are causing the
problem. 14
15
Advantages of bioelectric medicine
1.Helping with chronic pain.
2.Reducing inflammation.
3.Controlling heart rhythm.
4.Helping with neurological disorders.
5.Think of it like this:
Instead of just adding chemicals (drugs), it's
like "re-wiring" your body's electrical system to
work better.
16
Biosensors
Biosensors are fascinating devices that combine
biology and technology to detect specific
substances.
What is a Biosensor?
* A biosensor is an analytical device that detects a
chemical substance by combining a biological
component with a physical or chemical detector.
* Essentially, it translates a biological response 17

Tele-Pharmacy
• Tele pharmacy is essentially the delivery of pharmaceutical care through the
use of telecommunications and information technologies to patients who are
not physically present with a pharmacist.
• This involves pharmacists providing patient counseling, drug therapy
monitoring, and prescription verification through videoconferencing and
other digital tools.
20
Categories of Tele pharmacy Services
1. Mail order
2. Patient counseling by telephone
3. Medication therapy management (MTM)
4. Collaborative drug management
5. Central processing & remote order entry
6. Remote supervision of technician dispensing
7. Automated dispensing systems
21
There are 4 types of Tele pharmacy
• 1. Inpatient (remote order-entry review)
• 2. Remote dispensing (retail/outpatient/discharge)
• 3. IV admixtures
• 4. Remote counseling
22
• 1. Inpatient (remote order-entry review)
• Inpatient Telepharmacy refers to a pharmacist at a remote location
performing remote order-entry services for an inpatient pharmacy at
a hospital. The remote pharmacist reviews medication orders before
the hospital staff administers the drugs to the patient.
• Uses - Hospitals and health systems benefit from inpatient
Telepharmacy as it allows for real-time medication order review and
verification. With inpatient Telepharmacy, remote pharmacists are
able to provide 24/7 coverage hours to help supplement and
strengthen the inpatient pharmacy.
23
• 2. Remote dispensing
(retail/outpatient/discharge)
• A remote-dispensing site, or retail
community Telepharmacy, is a
licensed brick-and-mortar
pharmacy staffed by a certified
pharmacy technician. A
pharmacist supervises the
technician, reviews prescriptions
and performs his or her duties
from a remote location via
technology.,
24
3. IV admixtures
25
4. Remote Counseling
26
Advantages
• a. Improve efficiency (reduce work load)
• b. Improve accuracy (reduce errors)
• c. Improve documentation
• d. Enhance security (authorized access only)
• e. Reduce job stress and staff turnover
• f. Improve timeliness for medication delivery
Disadvantages
• a. Complexity and function variation
• b. Requires additional staff training and technical help
• c. Downtime system failure and inflexibility
• d. Cost and space issues 27
