Outline
• Introduction
• Technologies
– AI
– Drones
– IoT
– 5G
– Cloud Computing
– Mobile Apps
– Blockchain 2
1
Overview
• IT industry is affecting our life
• Present new ways of doing things
– Medicine
– Entertainment
– Business
– Education
– Marketing
– law enforcement, and more
• IT Innovations lead the change
3
1

Artificial Intelligence
• Emphasizes the development of intelligence
machines, thinking and working like humans
• A good example is face recognition
• GPS for location tracking
• Text Editors or Autocorrect
• Create fake faces look like you
• Search and Recommendation Algorithm
• Remote tracking and action

4
1
Use of artificial intelligence and face
recognition

5
1

Drones

• Drones are also called an unmanned aerial

vehicle (UAV)
• Drone is a flying robot that can be remotely
controlled
• Technology includes Electronic Speed
Controllers (ESC), Flight controller, GPS
Cameras, Sensors, Accelerometer &
Altimeter

6
1

Drones

• Uses:
– Military
– Delivery
– Emergency Rescue
– Outerspace
– Wildlife and Historical Conservation
– Medicine
– Photography

7
1

Killing of General Qassem Soleimani

8
1

IoT

• IoT -stands for Internet of Things

• IoT-digitally connected universe of everyday
physical devices
• IoT- refers to the billions of physical devices
around the world that are now connected to
the internet, all collecting and sharing data

9
1

IoT

IoT

11
1

Characteristics of IoT

• Very Large Scale

• Heterogeneity

• Pervasivity
Computing and communication technologies will
be embedded in our environments

12
1

5G

• G in 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G means generation of

wireless technology
• 1G was analog cellular
• 2G technologies e.g. CDMA, GSM, and TDMA-the
first generation of digital cellular technologies
• 3G technologies e.g.EVDO, HSPA, and UMTS,
brought speeds from 200kbps to a few megabits
per second

13
1

5G

• 4G technologies e.g. WiMAX and LTE -offer

speeds that are about 10 times faster than 3G
• IP-based “anytime, anywhere” voice, data, and
multimedia telephony at faster data rates than 3G
• Benefits of 4G includes quickly download files
over a wireless network, extremely high voice
quality , easily access Internet, social networks,
streaming media, video calling

14
1

5G
• 4G is now overloaded
• 5G will eliminate congestion on data and speed
• So what is 5G?
• It is the next generation of mobile internet
connection that offers much faster data download
and upload speeds
• Whatever we do now with our smartphones we'll be
able to do faster and better

15
1

Cloud Computing
• In computing terms, cloud means the
Internet
• Cloud computing means any computer
related task that is done entirely on the
Internet
• Cloud computing is delivering hosted
services over the Internet
• Others refer it as hardware and software
services from a provider on the internet
16
1

Cloud Computing

Why do you think it is called cloud???

17
1

Cloud Computing characteristics

• Priced “on demand” by the minute/hour

• Elastic – have as much or as little as you want

• Fully managed by the provider

18
1

Cloud Computing examples

• Facebook

• Google Drive

• Apple iCloud

• Amazon Web Services

• Microsoft 365
19
1

Mobile Apps
• A short form for mobile applications

• Mobile app or simply app is a is a computer

program or software application designed to run
on a mobile device such as a phone, tablet,
or watch.
• They are available for distribution through apps
stores

20
1

Categories of Mobile Apps

1. Lifestyle Mobile Apps

2. Social Media Mobile Apps
3. Utility Mobile Apps
4. Games/Entertainment Mobile Apps
5. Productivity Mobile Apps
6. News/Information Outlets Mobile Apps

21
1

Blockchain
• Blockchain is a computer file or a database
used for storing data – information

• Like any computer file, it exists on a digital

storage medium, such as a computer hard drive

• Use a form of a string of binary “bits” (1 and 0)

22
1

Blockchain
• Blockchain collects information together in groups

• These groups are called blocks

• Blocks hold sets of information

• Blocks have storage capacities

23
1

Blockchain
• Once filled up, they are chained onto the previously
filled block

• That’s why they are called blockchain

• Each block in the chain is given an exact timestamp

when it is added to the chain

• New blocks are always stored linearly and

chronologically
24
1

Decentralisation of Blockchain
• Blockchain is a decentralized peer to peer
network
• Decentralized networks are made up of
computers, also known as nodes, that interact on
a direct, peer-to-peer basis, without the need for
third parties
• Within a decentralized network, information is
distributed to every single “node” on the network
• Each node has an updated copy of all recorded
data
25
1

Decentralisation of Blockchain
• In a decentralized network, each participating
node is independent of the others

• Decentralized nodes connect using common rules,

but maintain their sovereignty and manage their
own privacy

• This helps keep the network secure, while also

ensuring relatively democratic governance.

26
1

Bitcoin and Blockchain

• First we need to understand what is a
cryptocurrency
• A cryptocurrency is a digital money

• A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that

is secured by advanced encryption techniques or
cryptography, which makes it nearly impossible to
counterfeit or double-spend

• Bitcoin (₿) is a cryptocurrency invented in 2008

27
1

Bitcoin and Blockchain

• Operated by a decentralized authority unlike
government-issued currencies
• Transactions are sent and received directly
between one person and another—be it for
personal or business purposes
• They can be exchanged for other currencies,
products, and services

28
1

Any Question???

29
1

Tutorial Questions

1. Discuss the benefits of the use of Artificial

Intelligence
2. Explain why cloud computing platforms work
well for online/mobile of web start-up
companies that are starting small but hoping
to make it big in a hurry.
3. Explain the meaning of QR codes and
Internet of Things (IoT)
