The document explains the concept of shapes, focusing on two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) shapes. It describes a cube as a 3D object made up of six equal square faces, highlighting its characteristics such as faces, vertices, and edges. The cube has 6 faces, 8 vertices, and 12 equal-length edges.

Shapes
The world is made up of many
different types of shapes.
Everywhere we go and almost
everything we see is made up of two or three-dimensional shapes like the computer screen where you're reading this. What are Dimensions? When we talk about dimensions, we're talking about the height, width, or depth of something. For example, a square drawn on paper has a height and width. Those are its two dimensions. But some things have three dimensions. Let's look at at this in more detail. Two-Dimensional The Third Dimension: Shapes: So Flat Not So Flat • Two-dimensional shapes are flat, • We live in a three-dimensional like squares or circles, or the world. 3-D shapes have height picture on your television. They and width (just like 2-D shapes), have height and width (but not and they also have a third depth). One 2-D shape we know dimension -depth. is a square. • 3D geometric shapes have faces, • Squares are 2-D because they are edges, and vertices. They have flat and have only a height and depth and so they occupy some width. volume. CUBE A cube is a 3D object that is formed by six equal squares. Everyday examples of cube Faces, Vertices and Edges
• Faces are the flat sides that you
touch when you hold a shape. A cube has 6 faces and all the faces of a cube are square in shapes. Each face has four equal sides.
• Vertices are the pointy bits or
the corners where edges meet. There are 8 vertices in a cube.
• Edges are the lines around a
shape. There are 12 edges in a cube. All the 12 edges are equal in length because all faces are squares. Faces, Vertices and Edges
