Francisco Vasquez de Coronado (1540s)
1492 1519 Coronado's expedition was primarily motivated
by rumors of a wealthy city called "Cíbola,"

likely exaggerated, but they captured the
imagination of Spanish explorers and fueled
their desire for discovery and conquest.
Despite not achieving the wealth and glory he had
hoped for, Coronado's expedition had a lasting
impact. It contributed to the European
understanding of the geography of the
southwestern United States. The exploration also
paved the way for further Spanish expansion and
colonization in the region, as well as interactions
between Spanish explorers and Native American
cultures. It was also during this time period that

introduced to the North American west.
