2. Course description
• Correct pronunciation of Chinese initials, finals
and tones; phonemes and syllable structures
in Mandarin Chinese; stress and intonation;
emphasis on correction of pronunciation.
3. Course introduction
• No textbook for this course, but videos and

one week before the lesson is delivered.

5. Blended Learning
• Online learning through Google Meet if
necessary. Students can get into Meet by clicking
the link generated in each Google Classroom
section.

• 1) Attendance 5% 90 – 100 A
• 2) Pronunciation Quiz 10 % 85 – 89 B+
• 3) Oral Test 20 % 80 – 84 B
• 4) Video Assignment 10 % 75 – 79 C+

• 6) Final Examination 25 % 65 – 69 D+

6.1 Attendance 5%
• Come to classroom on time.
• Those who come late (after name checking) will
get a half score.
• No score will be given if absent. Student can’t
take Mid-term or Final Examination if they have
been absent for 3 times.
• Students can ask for business leave with
Business Leave Letter or sick leave with Medical
Certificate, but not more than 3 times in total.

6.2 Pronunciation Quiz 10%
• ALL Initials, Finals and Tones will be put into
the Pronunciation Quiz.
• Students come to do the quiz with the teacher
one by one, and students can repeatedly
come to the teacher before the semester
ends.
6.3 Oral Tests 20%
• 4 Oral Tests in total; 5% each.
• First three tests will be syllables; while the
forth one will be sentence intonation.
6.4 Video Assignment 10%
• Teacher will assign video assignment in Google
Classroom with deadlines.
• Sections on Tuesday, the deadline of handing in
video assignment is Friday 23:59;
Sections on Thursday, the deadline of handing in
video assignment is next Sunday 23:59;
Sections on Friday, the deadline of handing in
video assignment is next Monday 23:59.

6.5 Examinations
• Mid-term Examination 20% (Lesson 1-6)

6.6 Video Project 5%
• Students are supposed to make a video clip
individually at the end of the semester.
• Students can choose a video clip from movies
or other media resources between 2 and 3
minutes, and make a dubbing voice to it. The
deadline of handing in is in Week 15.
6.7 Co-Project 5%
• Co-Project is a group work, combining three
courses that students are taking on the first
semester, including Elementary Chinese 1,
Communicative Chinese and Chinese
Pronunciation.
• Details will be informed later after Mid-term
Examination.
