Planning Commission
• It was set in March 1950.
• It was setup by a simple resolution of the
government of India.
• Jawaharlal Nehru was the chairperson of the
planning commission.
• It has an advisory role but its
recommendations become effective only the
union government approved i.e. cabinet

Five year Plans:
The planning commission of India opted for 5 year plan so
basically the idea was to prepare a document that includes
all income and expenditure for the next five years.
• So first five year plan came in 1951 - 1956 address mainly
the agrarian sector.
• The second five year plan came in 1956 – 61.
• It was focused on heavy industries.
• Third five year plan came in 1956 -61.
• It was not significantly different from the second.
• India faced active economic crisis during this period
therefore the government decided to take a ‘plan holiday’.

Why NITI Aayog was formed?

POLICY, 15YR VISION DOCUMENT)
