The problem of the Activities
 During my stay in DU ICT I observed some problems of the network and working
environment. These are the main problems what my witnessed during apparent ship
time in DU.
 The Infrastructure and Services Team controls on Dilla University (DU) Local Area
Network (LAN).
Teacher’s residence house network was controlled by DUICT and
so, Infrastructure and Services Team also controls that LAN.
So, there are below some problems. These are: -
 The wired (cabling) networks are not worked because of some problems.
 The WI-FI (Wireless Fidelity) networks are ceasing for some period of time.
 The Dilla University (Du) some office networks the main switch was roasted and all
that area peoples were didn’t use the connection for period of time.
 The other one was a shortage of switch for computer sciences, Engineering and
technology computer laboratory rooms and cannot functional some parts of nodes.
 Power failure
 Connection weakness
 Lack of enough material
 Less man power.
The Proposed solution for problems of above activities by two ways

The proposed temporary solution for problems listed above.

 There were four Wi-Fi networks are temporarily fixed by repeated refreshing .

The proposed permanently solution for problems listed above. These are:-
 The teacher residence house wired networks first start from cable checking and again

also switches checking. There are four (4) blocks and each blocks have eight (8) rooms, so
we have checked the cables that are totally thirty-two (32) are connected by using cable
testers.
 The computer sciences and Technology to solve node problem special cultural center and

Department of Hydraulic and irrigation is currently use hub because the shortage of
switch then this problem solve to removing the hub and first taking the new switch and
that switch configured by us and with them I connect that switch on network and it uses
that switch have 48 ports.
 Power failure can be solved by using backup generator like ups.

 Connection weakness can be solved by installing network.

 Informing the problem of materials to concerning body they can solve it.

 Increasing their man power can help the University to be improved.

Materials and Tools Used During the Apparent Ship

practice I have used different kinds of materials used for networking such as
Patch panels, Trucking, Fiber optics, Converter, Screw Drivers, Cutter,
Cat6 cable.
o Patch panels:-

Steps to follow to patch panel new switch

1. Prepare the Cat Cable

2. Prepare the Patch Panel
3. Put Cat Cable into Patch Panel
Cont’…..

4. Punching Down

o Console cable:

Steps to how to connect console cable to switch

-Connect a Cisco switch and computer using a rollover console cable.
-Connect the rollover console cable to the RJ-45 console port of the
switch.
- Connect the other cable end to the serial COM port on the computer.
Cont’…..

o Cutter: - I used to cut different materials of networking such as: cable,

wires, trucking -and etc...

-Remove one inch of the outer jacket from the cable using a cable stripper
or with the help of RJ45 crimping tool.
Procedure to crimp an Ethernet Cable

Steps to follow to crimp Ethernet cable:

 Cut the cable by the cutter.
 Strip cable end
 Untwist wire ends
 Arrange wires
 Trim wires to size
 Attach connector
 Check
 Crimp
 Test
Cont’…..
 Straight through cable arrangement: -I use this UTP cabling for
the different type of network devices.

Crossover cable arrangement: -I use this UTP cabling for the same type of
network devices. A crossover cable can be used to connect 2 computers directly.
Feedback of the proposed solution

The feedback the organization gives to me after identify problem with its
proposed solution was as follow:-
They have a positive response to the identify problem that the problem exists
in the organization.
AS they mentioned they do know that the identified problem are there, also
as a solution the office working on it. They are dealing on the identify problems
also.
They support me for the solution I proposed for the problem.
Activities Done By The Students During Practical
AsAttachment
mentioned above during the stay of two month of the practical attachment I
have taking one of the problems of the organization and getting the solution .
-Crimping an Ethernet Cable
-Checking and solve the problem of nonfunctional ports.
-Switch and router Configuration

Problems Faced during the Practical Attachment

listed below are the problems that faced me during the practical attachment.
1. As we know all in Dilla University not only in the university as well as in the
town there is repeatedly Electric Power failure. The power is sometimes off for
short or almost for a long time.
2. Matter of materials needed for work.
Opportunities
The Opportunities that I got from the practical attachment are: -
 How the real world operates its task?
 How to work with peoples.
 How I will work after graduation related with my profession field
 How I will solve problems related to my profession field
 I get knowledge the discipline of my work place.
 I get knowledge how to give service to the customers.
 Social life with the staff member in work place.
 I got the information about the workflow of the system and by working
with this system, I get more knowledge.
 I aware from the system there are different problem can be faced.
Conclusion and Recommendations

Conclusion
 This internship program has a many significance for student’s to upgrade theoretical

knowledge, to improving creativity skill, to know how they change theoretical

knowledge to practical on their real world life also I’ve improved my communication
skill, co-working, and sociability with different professionals in the organization also
it assist us in developing greater understanding of our own strength and weakness.
Also we I’ve seen a lot and have learned entrepreneurship skills, leadership skills and
in terms of understanding about work ethics and related issues more than enough by
conducting the knowledge we have gained from campus throughout this practical
time.
Recommendations

 In Dilla University on different offices, we have seen that in every room the

cables are not properly organized, so proper cable termination techniques

will be applied.
 First aid kit must be placed in the ICT network and infrastructure service

room for the workers they can use simply when problem or injury is
happened.
 With the usage of network resource or internet on each office I’ve

identified different problems, like users have no full knowledge of using

and accessing, even plugging of network cables and network installing
drivers for their computer we recommend them to
 have full knowledge on how to use internet and access new ideas from

internet.
