- India in 15th century

- The modern design of chess pieces beras the name stuanton, who
was an English master in the mid-1800s.

- First international Chess Tournament was the London Tourney in


1851

Adolf Anderssen – A german who is unofficial best chess player of


the world because he did not receive any award/title.

Paul Morphy – a first American player traveled to Europe in 1850s
and beat all the challengers
- but never became a world chess champion

First official chess tournament was played in 1866 in London with


sand clocks.

Steinitz- a bohemian (Czechoslovakian) Jew won became the

Castling- a move of the king /or either the rook of the same
color along the player’s first row.
move the king two squares over to one side and then
move the rook from that side’s corner on the square next to the
king.
En Passant- allows pawn to move square to be captured as
though it only moved one

Pawn Promotion- is a special ability of a pawn wherein if it


reaches the last row of the other side of the board, it became
any other chess pieces except the king.
