TELESCOPIC

CYLINDER

Telescopic cylinder
■ Telescopic cylinders are a
special design of a hydraulic
cylinder or pneumatic
cylinder as well as pulley
system which provide an
exceptionally long output
travel from a very compact
retracted length.
■ They only require a very small
amount of space for
installation in the retracted
position in comparison to
“normal” cylinders with the
same stroke.
What are the applications of telescopic
cylinders?

■ Generally, a telescopic cylinder will be used in applications

where a constant force is not required. Both single-acting and
double-acting telescopic cylinders are used in non-constant
force applications. The most common of these in mobile
applications are dump trucks and refuse vehicles.
■ Hydraulic pressure is the amount of force applied to a liquid
or gas by a pump. It is measured in pounds per square inch
(PSI). Normal hydraulic pressure is between 3000 and 4000
psi. Hydraulic pressure is used in a variety of applications,
such as irrigation, mining, oil drilling, and manufacturing.
Advantages of hydraulic system:

Small size and light weight;

High stiffness, high precision and
fast response;
Large driving force, suitable for
heavy load direct driving;
Wide speed control range and
various speed control modes;
Self-lubrication, self-cooling and long
life;
■ Easy to realize security
protection.
Disadvantages of telescopic cylinders:

The force reduces with each section change

during extension.
Retraction force is limited by the smallest stage
area.
The cylinder speed increases with each change
in stage.
■ More complex design therefore more costly
than other types of cylinders.
