TOOL BOX
Toolbox contains all the tools used to create a publication in PageMaker. Choose Window
and select Show Tools to display the toolbox. The individual tools will be explained in detail
later in this session.
ZERO POSITION
Zero Position allows you to set the zero position on the screen. Zero position is the position, where both the top and the left
side rules are at zero. By Zero positioning all measurements in the pages are made relative to this point. Click it and drag it to
anywhere on the workspace to set it as the Zero Point.
POINTER TOOL
Pointer tool is used to pick, drag and drop graphics and text.
TEXT TOOL
Text Tool is used to edit and select text and insert text frames. Click the text tool and click anywhere in the document and start
entering text. The text tool creating a free flowing text box.
ROTATE TOOL
Rotate too is used to rotate text and graphic objects. Click the rotate tool. Then click on the object reference point and drag to
rotate the object.
CROP TOOL
The Crop tool is used to crop imported graphic images to the required size. The crop tool only works on TIFF type of images.
Click on the toll and, drag the image handles, to crop the image.
OBLIQUE LINE TOOL
Oblique Line is used to draw slanting lines. To draw a line, click the oblique line tool, click and drag to draw a line in any
direction.
CONSTRAINED LINE TOOL
Constrained Line tool will draw lines at 45 degree intervals, i.e., horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
BOX TOOL
Box tool is used to draw a box.
RECTANGLE FRAME
Rectangle Frame is used to type text inside a box. First select the toll and draw the area to be enclosed by the rectangular
frame, then select the text tool and click inside the drawn frame to enter text. The text will be constrained to the rectangular
frame.
CIRCLE TOOL
Circle tool is used to draw a circle or elliptical graphic. To draw a circle or an ellipse, select the tool, click and drag to draw a
circle on the document.
CIRCULAR FRAME
Circular Frame is used to type text inside a circle or an oval. Use the Circular frame tool to draw the frame and then click
inside with the text tool to start entering text. The entered text will be constrained to the circular frame.
POLYGON TOOL
Polygon tool is used to draw a shape with more than four sides. You can modify the polygon by selecting Element and
selecting Polygon Settings.
POLYGON FRAME
Polygon frame puts the text inside the polygon. Select the polygon frame tool, draw a polygon then select the text tool and click
inside the frame to enter the text inside the frame to enter the text inside the polygon frame.
HAND TOOL
Hand tool is used to move the screen. This tool is very useful when you are working with large documents. It helps you to
easily navigate in a large page. To move a screen, just select the hand tool and click and drag the page to view different parts
of the page.
ZOOM TOOL
Zoom tool allows you to zoom in and out of the document view. By default the zoom tool will be in the Zoom-in mode. To
zoom out of page select the zoom tool and press control and click in the document window with the zoom tool.
FILE MENU:- ALT+F
New: New command is used to create a new publication. This command gives rise to
a dialog box where you define the various options before opening a new page of the
publication.
Open: it use to open the saves file.
Go to file
Click on open ……..(ctrl+ 0)
You can see a dialog box in a screen.
Choose the file
Click on open
Recent publication:- it is use to shows the current close file name
Go to file.
Click on recent publication
Then choose the file and click there
Close :- this command is used to close the publication document.
Go to file
Click on close ……(ctrl+w)
close
Save:- it use to store the data and publication permanent in computer
Go to file
Click on save ……..(ctrl+s)
You can see dialog box in a screen
Save as:- this command is used to make the duplicate file in different kinds of name changing the different directory folder.
Revert:- removes all changes to the active publication since you last saved it press shift as you choose revert to cancel
changes since the last mini-save. Several operations cause mini-saves, including turning, deleting or inserting pages, printing
and copying or pasting object to the clipboard.
Go to file
Click on revert
Then you see a dialog box in the screen if you want revert the last action than click on ok
Place:- graphics generated in other application packages can be brought into a
page maker document by using the place commend .
EXPORT:- Export command lets you export you publications into the format you select.
Link manger :-There are three commands in PageMaker, which allow you to manage links.
The Links Manager command lets you view or modify links for single and multiple objects
throughout a publication.
Document set up :- this commend is used to change setting for a publication first defined
when you choose new such as page size number of pages and page. (format yourself same as
new).
Go to file
Click on document setup
Than format yourself (same as new) then
click on ok.
Preferences (ctrl+k):- this commend is mainly used to change the measurement scale (MM to inches-inches to MM)
alignment typographer’s quotes etc.
Go to file.
Click on preference and click on general
Change vertical and horizontal ruler as your requirement
EDIT MENU ( ALT + E
)
Undo :- it is use to repeat the function after done.
Go to edit
Click on undo…….(ctrl+z)
Note:- you can undo only a one time fastly.
DELETE UNDO
Cut :- this command is used to move the text , picture in desirable place.
First of all selected text or objects
Go to edit menu
Click cut……(ctrl+x)
Place the mouse cursor in desirable place
Then go to edit and click on paste
COPY & PASTE:- It commands is used to duplicate (copy) the text, object.
First of all select text or objects
Go to edit
Click copy…..(ctrl+c)
Place the mouse cursor in desirable place
Then go to edit and click on paste.
Clear :- this command is used to delete the selected text or object.
Select the object
Go to edit
Click on clear or press backspace or delete
select all:- this command is used to selected all text or object of current pages.
If you want to selected a single object, click the object with the pointer tool
To add object to a selection hold down shift as you click other object
To select several object at once drag the pointer tool around multiple objects
Go to edit
Click on select all….(ctrl+a)
Deselect all :- it is used to deselect all the selected text, object, picture .
Go to edit
Click on deselect all……..(shift+ctrl+A)
Copy & Paste multiple :- this command is used to paste numerical offset form the original
object.
Go to edit
Click on paste multiple
Then type numerical copies in paste copies (like 8, 10 etc.) but you can paste up-to 8533
copies.
Click on ok
Paste special :- it is used to paste the special copies text, picture that you cannot do by
normal copy-past. Specially use this option to paste copied form other program.
Go to edit
Click on paste special
Select a format in the paste special dialog box
Click on ok
Insert object:- it is used to linking a program or file in your current publication you launch on
server application in which you create an object which is then , pasted as an imbedded object
in to the current publication.
Go to edit
Click on insert object and click on ok
If you want to link the file in the current publication
Go to edit
Click on create from file
Click on browse than choose the file and click on ok.
Edit story :- it is use to edit the text (spelling checking, replace the text, find the text
Go to edit
Click on edit story……..(ctrl+e)
Edit original:- opens the source application to which the selected object is linked.
Go to edit
Click on edit original……….(ctrl+e)

L)
Insert page:- it is used add to a publication before or after the current page or insert new
pages between two facing pages and specifies the mater applied to new pages.
Go to the place where you want to insert pages
Go to layout
Click on insert pageS
Type the no. of pages you want to add and select a location (after, before between) for
the new pages
Specify the mater pages you want to apply and then click insert
Then click on ok
If you want to insert one page or two facing page you can press short cut key
(CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+G)
INSERT PAGE
Go to page (ALT+ctrl+G) :- it is used to go desirable page in the active publication.
Remove page :- it will delete any number of page on our publication work.
Go to layout
Click on remove pages……..(ALT+G)
Then type the range of page you want remove and then click ok
Short page :- it is use to short the page in current publication. You can change the
pages form one position to another in active publication.
Go to layout
Click on short page
Select the page or page where you want to move
Then click ok to change the page order
GO BACK :- it is use to go backward form current page.
Go to layout
Click on go back……..(CTRL+PGUP)
if the stroke size you want is not listed on the stroke menus choose
element>stroke>custom to specify a weight form 0 to 800 points in 0.1 increments.
Frame:- this command is used to attach text and graphics to a frame set attributes for
frames and the object they contain and navigate among frames.
To attach existing text or graphics to a frame
Use the pointer tool to select the frame
Press shift and select the text block or imported graphic you want to add to
the frame
Choose element and choose frame the attach content
Send to back (ctrl+[ ):- it is used to moves selected objects to the back of any overlapping
object
Send backward (ctrl+[ ):- it is used to moved selected objects up one level
Aligning objects using the align dialog
The option is used to align selected object in relation to each other and then evenly
distribute them
Select the elements to be aligned
Choose align object from the arrange menu
Choose the appropriate align or distribute option for both the vertical and horizontal
position of elements. Click on ok the shapes will be aligned or distributed accordingly.
Text wrapping :- this option is used to prevent graphic and text form overlapping each
other. It is applied to a graphic element to center a text exclusion boundary.
Group :- this commend is used to combine (joint) one or more select objects are treated
as a unit.
Use shift key to select object that you want to group
Ungroup :- grouped object into constituent object retain the change you made whil the
object were grouped.
Lock position (ctrl+l):- it is used to maintain objects in place. you can change the
attributes of a locked object as long as the change dose not affect the object’s size or
position.
The element are now immovable. If you want to delete them, then you must firstly select
them. Then choose unlock form the element menu.
Choose create index form the utilities menu edit the index title if necessary, click on format
to customize the appearance of the index.
Click on ok button to create the index
Find a suitable place for the index and click the new index story will flow into the
page.
Creating a table of content:-
Set the include in table of contents attributes for your heading styles and also for
individual paragraph if necessary
Choose create TOC from the utilities menu
From create table of content dialog box you can specify the TOC title as well as the
format for the page reference. Note the TOC can be compiled for a complete book list.
When page maker is ready, it will display a text place symbol, allowing you to place the TOC
on a suitable page.
