NEW ARCHITECTURAL ERA

OPTING FOR GREENER AND

EFFICIENT ARCHITECTURE
INTRODUCTION
Efficiency in architecture is a widely used term in
different fields such as education and industry. It's a
term or concept that has been beneficial and
sustainable in terms of preserving energy, space,
material, cost, environment and other factors that
have a great impact on architecture.
INTRODUCTION
The concept of "green building" made a face in
architecture that gives a visualization of how
modernization in the industry does not only connote
destruction of the environment, but rather it can also
visualize a healthy representation of how architects
are also advocates for a healthier environment.
WHY SUSTAINABLE
BUILDING MATTERS
Green building is an architectural concept that highlights
efficiency in the use of natural resources without leaving
a detrimental impact on the environment and the society. It
means incorporating properly managed resources and being
accountable and responsible in every step conducted in the
construction of a building.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)

estimates that green buildings can
reduce energy consumption by up to 30-
50%, leading to substantial savings over

WHY SUSTAINABLE

Buildings consume about 34 percent of
global energy and contribute up to 37
percent of total greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions, according to the United
Nations Environment Programme.

WHY SUSTAINABLE
BUILDING MATTERS

Green buildings help reduce negative

impacts on the natural environment by
using less water, energy, and other
natural resources; employing renewable
energy sources and eco-friendly
materials; and reducing emissions and

KEY PRINCIPLES OF
SUSTAINABLE
BUILDING DESIGN
Sustainable building design focuses on energy efficiency, material selection, and water
conservation to minimize environmental impact. Prioritizing indoor environmental quality
ensures healthier, more comfortable workspaces for employees

KEY PRINCIPLES OF
SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
DESIGN
1 ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Others employ passive solar building design strategies that physically

position building elements, including windows, walls, awnings, and
landscaping, to maximize the benefits of cooling shade in summer and
solar warmth in winter. The concept of daylighting calls for orienting
windows in a manner that makes best use of natural light inside the
building and reduces electric lighting needs. And solar-powered water
heating cuts down on energy costs.
2 SUSTAINABLE
MATERIALS
Environmentally-friendly materials or green building materials. In building,
environmentally-friendly materials (also known as green building
materials) are those in which, for their production, placing and
maintenance, actions of low environmental impact have been performed.

3 WATER CONSERVATION

As per estimates, integrating such water management interventions can

reduce home water usage by up to 30%. This offers substantial water
savings alongside cost benefits for homeowners.

4 WASTE REDUCTION

Responsible waste management is one of the keys to creating an energy-

efficient environment, for example, the use of organic waste into biogas
which can be an alternative to renewable energy.

2 INTEGRATING PASSIVE
ARCHITECTURE BUILDINGS

Passive design strategies have a profound impact

on the energy efficiency of green buildings by
reducing consumption for heating, cooling, and
lighting. The integration of these strategies leads
to substantial energy savings, improved occupant
comfort, and a reduction in greenhouse gas
emissions.

PROPER AND EFFICIENT
MANAGEMENT OF WATER RESOURCES

As residential, commercial, industrial, and other

development expands, so does the use of the
limited potable water supply, water that is
suitable for drinking.

Green building encourages innovative

water-saving strategies that help projects
use water wisely.

4 SOLAR AND WIND ENERGY

Different renewable energy sources, such as

solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass, can be
incorporated into buildings in numerous forms
according to the location and policy support.
These can make buildings self-sufficient and
carbon-neutral and lower long-term operational
costs.

Thus, integrating active and passive renewable

energy systems for HVAC can significantly

ENVIRONMENT

One of the main strategies to improve indoor

environmental quality (IEQ) is to provide
adequate ventilation and filtration of indoor air.
This can reduce the risk of IAQ problems, such as
sick building syndrome, allergies, asthma, and
infections. To achieve this, consider using natural
ventilation with operable windows, doors, and
skylights to increase air exchange and reduce
energy consumption.
