PARABOLA

AT THE END OF THE LESSON, THE STUDENTS MUST

HAVE;
• DEFINED A PARABOLA
• DETERMINED THE STANDARD FORM OF
EQUATION OF A PARABOLA
• GRAPH A PARABOLA IN A RECTANGULAR
COORDINATE SYSTEM.
What is Parabola?
A parabola is a set of all coplanar points that
are equidistant from a fixed line and a fixed
point not on the fixed line. The fixed line is
called the directrix of the parabola and the fixed
point is called the focus.

The line that passes through the focus and is
perpendicular to the directrix is called the axis
of symmetry of the parabola,
The line that passes through the focus and
is perpendicular to the directrix is called the
axis of symmetry of the parabola,
Latus rectum is a line that passes through
a focus, perpendicular to the axis of
symmetry.
Latus rectum is a line that passes
through a focus, perpendicular to the axis
of symmetry.
