Definition of Descriptive Text
In Indonesian, a descriptive text is a
particular object in detail. So, as mentioned
earlier, in this text, you will describe the
object clearly. It can be its size, color, shape,
smell, and so on.
Purpose of Descriptive Text
The purpose of descriptive text is to describe or
describe an object in detail. These objects can be
people, animals, things, or places.
For example, a descriptive text about an animal.
The text can contain various information about
the physical description, food, habitat, origin,
breeding, and related unique facts.
Structure of Descriptive Text
The structure of a descriptive text consists of two
parts, which are identification and description.
The identification section contains an introduction
to the object to be described. For example, 'what is
that object?' or 'where did that object come from?’.
Meanwhile, the description section contains a more
specific explanation of the object being described.
In this section, you can explain about the
appearance or personality of the object.
Characteristics of Descriptive Text
• Uses simple present tense
• Uses many adjectives
• There is a Relating Verb
• Descriptive text has only one focus, which is
to explain one object.
My Best Friend, Hanni
Identification:
Let me introduce you to my best friend. Her name is Hanni. She
is my classmate in Junior High School. She is thirteen years old.
Description:
Hanni is so pretty. She has an oval face, rounded eyes, pointed
nose, and beautiful black long hair. Her skin color is fair. Also, she
has a slim body and is quite tall. She is 155 centimeters tall.
Hanni really loves to sing and dance. She joins the dance club as
her extracurricular activity at school. She is smart and friendly.
She often helps me to do my homework and always respects the
elders. Everyone loves her.
My Lovely Cat, Bebe
Identification:
My mother bought me a present I’ve wanted for years. It’s a cat. A kitten to
be exact. I called her Bebe.
Description:
Bebe is a small kitten. Her size is as big as the palm of my hand. So cute!
She has white and grey color, and lovely yellow eyes. She is very soft and
furry. Bebe is so fragile. Sometimes, I’m afraid I will hurt her if I want to
take her up.
Mom said, she found Bebe near our house, crying looking for her mom. But
mom can’t see her, so mom decides to bring Bebe home and give her
some comfort.
Bebe is a good eater. She always finished everything we gave to her. But,
she likes snacks and wet food the most. Now, it’s been a year since Bebe
came to our family. Her small body has grown up into the size of a football
ball. Bebe is a good cat, and we love her so much.
Buzz, My Dog
Identification:
I have a dog. His name is Buzz. Sometimes, I called him Buzzy. He is
my lovely bulldog. Buzz is 2 years old now. He is cute and funny. He
always makes me smile.
Description:
Buzz has small body and short tail. He has soft brown color and
rounded eyes. He is 20 kg weight. So heavy! That’s why I rarely carry
him.
Buzz eats some meats and bones. I also give him snacks before
dinner. Buzz likes running. When I throw a ball, stick, or doll, he runs
after it. After he gets it, he comes and gives it to me. We always play
together when I come back from school. He loves me and always
shows his love by licking me. I love Buzz very much and take care of
him.
